With Firmware 1.6 being released, PS3 owners can now use this application.

According to this (as of 5:45 PM Central):
    http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=osstats
There are 4338 registered PS3 users, 3411 of which are active (meaning that they have returned a work unit in the last 2 days). Their combined performance is 102 TFLOPs, not far behind the 151 TFLOPs that the 158,630 active CPUs running Windows are providing at the moment. The total for all the CPUs is 342 TFLOPs.

The PS3 community is trying to organize a "Sunday Night Foldathon" this Sunday, so try to check that out:
    http://www.qj.net/PS3-community-launches-Sunday-Night-Foldathon/pg/49/aid/86923

FWIW, I think you can leave the client running in the background while navigating the XMB (press triangle while running the client or something like that). Not sure if stays on at all times, or if some things will turn it off (maybe it stays on while web browsing, but watching a movie or playing a game will pause it). Maybe one of you guys can test that out.

    I don't have a PS3, but I would join a Clutchfans group on computer.

I'm almost done with my first work unit.

Unless I'm r****ded, you can't do anything while the program is running. It's taken me around 7 1/2 hours for this one unit so you will mostly get results leaving it running when you are not home or sleeping.

Austin's own Video Game Hour Live has a folding group and we have not ironed out the details yet but we hope to have small incentives for members when the group reaches certain milestones.

If you want to join now the group ID is "55544". You can look for concrete details on the April 4th show.

Very cool thing. More systems should get in on something like that.

Not a bad idea. Have to see what's required for the PC side...

My bad then. I just read someone online describing how you can exit into the XMB without closing the client, so I assumed you could do something else in the XMB while running it.

BTW, what time (or times?) does your show air? I might like to check it out from time to time.

I'll probably join if you do create one.

It would be awesome if Microsoft and Nintendo did this as well. That could lead to a possible 140M-150M systems available for use in the next few years.

It would be pretty nice if Standford is able to update the application to run on the GPU for the PS3 (and the 360 if it supports it) as well. That would add a lot more performance I would imagine. Although I guess we wouldn't get any more fancy graphics.

Oh yeah...forgot to mention that their servers weren't quite ready to handle the new PS3 users trying to download the client today (they're hosting the downloads and not Sony AFAIK).

    ok here we go:

    group number: 56139

right click red icon in taskbar, go to configure..enter in team number.

I have mine to setup to only run as a screensaver, otherwise its going to run in the background and might slow down stuff.

EDIT: I have a question, could just be a computer problem but I have it running as a screensaver, but when it goes to it i dont see the display, i know its running, but i still see my desktop and not the saver. Anyone have any idea why this might be?

I'll join it when it will let the PS3's get teams. I have "Folding" running now, but most of the day I have been playing Homecourt and Oblivion so it's not very far into it.

Thanks for setting all that up FlyerFanatic. I haven't had any of the problems you've had, but that might be due to my specs. I can leave my client on at all times without experiencing slow down, so I haven't really bothered with the screensaver option. I just tried it earlier, and I didn't have any problems.

FWIW, the PS3s running Folding@Home are now outperforming the PCs running Windows (157 TFLOPs to 151, with 6404 PS3s compared to 158,776 PCs). That's pretty awesome, and a good indicator of how this sort of move can really help out this project. Hopefully, PS3 users will continue to use this whenever they can and not ignore it as time goes on.

Alright, I d-loaded it again, just wont have it run as screen saver see how that works. Though I noticed when I d-loaded it, i got an error message about how my graphics card settings were reset or something, and had to send some kind of error report to ATI. Must have something to do with the graphics card. What are your specs RC?

Not sure what the problems is. I would think this would have little to do with graphics cards, unless you accidentally downloaded the (ATI) GPU client instead of the CPU client or something like that. Maybe you should check out some of the FAQs.

I have a dual-core CPU (AMD 64 X2 4200+ overclocked to 2.4GHz IIRC) and 2GB of RAM. I have a Nvidia GPU (7900 GT), but I've also tested this on my laptop with a ATI GPU and haven't had any problems (although I don't run this on my laptop very often).

I d-loaded the graphical client for XP. I tried checking the FAQs nothing there as far as I can tell. Any more ideas?

How much did all of that cost ya?

EDIT: I know it is working because when I scroll over the red icon on my taskbar it says 50/5000, still afraid to check the screensaver option though. So I posted on their forums see if anyone might know.
