I don't think it's bad to not have a horse at all. I just like to roam around between cities so figured the horse would be good. Also at that time I thought 2,500 gold was a lot to have so that spending a 1,000 on a horse would be no big deal. I'm impressed you took out a giant. I haven't done that. I did get killed by one, when I didn't see him and went after what I thought was a solo mammoth. Turns out there were three mammoths, and at least one giant. I was too busy running to really count, but I was demolished anyway. The toughest thing I've killed was a frost troll. They hit hard. If it wasn't for Lydia helping me, I would have never made it. She was incapacitated during the fight but we were able to finally kill him.
Yeah, I was just running around between towns in the early parts of the game (I guess I'm still in the early parts of the game since I really haven't done much), and figured I didn't need a horse. That was until they told me to improve myself as a mage by going to the Mage College in Winterhold. That was a freaking hike. But by then I knew how much a house would cost me - something like $5000, so I'm trying to make it without a horse for now and putting money into training. BTW, how does Lydia keep up when you have a horse? Or does she just catch up eventually? The pathfinding of your companion is probably among the more irritating things in the game so far. Oh, trust me, at level 3-4, you can't go head-to-head with a giant. Like I said, I kited him back to Whiterun and ran him around, up, and down that area while defenders each took a shot at him and failed. I dumped all my mana repeatedly into trying to fry him. The fight probably took me at least 15 minutes. The commentary by the guards was hilarious. At the Western Watchtower, one saw me hauling tail past him with a giant gaining and he said something like "oh this is going to be fun"... another couple of guards said something along the lines of "oh crap" and just took off running with me. Hilarious.
My two handed level was at 31 and now its at 15 and its red in the skill up section. I checked if i have diseases in the added effect in the magic menu but nothing. Any ideals? It's kind of frustrating lol
Very strange, maybe a bug? Am fresh in the game and therefore haven't advanced that far, but are there still churches? The altar always healed your diseases, sleep at an inn too. I guess you already did these things, in that case I'm really confused. Report it to the official forums and hope for a proper reply.
Hmmm...I got this quest in Riften from one of the Black-Briar sons who was in the jail. He asked me to find information on a woman named Svidi whose brother he killed in "self-defense". Anyway, the quest is filed under Miscellaneous and it has no marker, so I'm guessing I'll eventually either come across her or some info on her. Has anyone else gotten this quest yet?
Well... those quests are so minuscule in scale, that it won't need map markers. I recommend googling.
Whose Lydia!!! Man I just did a quest in in that first city with the blacksmith and all. Returned the 3 fingered claw and lvled up to 4 but it sounds like you guys have already seen the world!!?! Im debating on staying up to play some more. I like the lvl system better then Oblivion (whatever skill you lvled is how many points you got the option to raise in that attribute) but does everything lvl with you as in with Oblivion? I hope not, i hope to be able to deal with the giants with ease at one point.
First time I went with a Khaajit (spl?) But stuck around with the normal thieving skills. At start.... Ended up loving my flames and such that those skills started raising. Is there a quick spell button other the up and down??
Game is EPIC! I just started playing tonight. Man, love the open world. I'm around the same place as joesr.
This game just owned my weekend. I'm going to be the walking dead at work tomorrow. Can't wait until Thanksgiving week. I got the entire week off.
That sounds awesome. I'll live that giant hunt vicariously through you for now. I don't think I'm that good at running faster than the monsters while still fighting. Though kiting him to where there are guards to help would be helpful. At least I have a good strategy to try when I do take on a giant. As for Lydia and the horse, she usually just catches up, thought it's much faster than I was worried about. If I see the enemies before they see me, and I can dismount, and wait for just a second or two and she's there. If they ambush me, and are something tougher than wolves, she usually shows up before the fight ends.
What level are you guys? I just hit level 19. The trick is to let people teach you skills then pickpocket all your money back to learn from someone else. Rinse and repeat.
The only thing I've stolen so far has been a mammoth tusk. I needed it for a quest and couldn't kill one in the wild without being swarmed by giants. very minor spoiler Spoiler Then I found a vampire in a house that killed, but it still said taking the things there was stealing. But I needed that tusk and took it. Hopefully the person who needed it will accept it, and won't know it's stolen.
OK, talked my wife into a new tower PC for XMas just for this game....gonna get it built this week I think. DD
Damn you guys. You made me break down and buy this game. I've only played a couple hours but I'm already impressed. The system requirements aren't as steep as I would have thought. This old pc plays it just fine on high settings. 4gb ram/amd x2 555/radeon 57something or other.
