They may looks like dramatic near-miss HR's... but if the cutter is truly inside, they can hit it as hard as they want, and you'll get that result virtually every time. In fact, the harder they hit it, the more likely it is to go foul... its if they pull off the pitch that Pettite could get in trouble because you're more likely to get bloop singles and doubles with contact on that pitch. In the end... 1-2-3 inning.
