I'd still rather have Lane than Willy. The argument is Burke vs. Lane... and I'm just saying that Burke probably can't play RF as well as Lane can, but he has a shot to playing CF just as good as Willy (and his bat is much better).
I'm guessing, despite Burke's hot streak, Garner will keep Lane in there, cause he is due for a breakout. But it definitely opens up for debate come spring training whether to take a look at Burke possibily playing short. But then again, Biggio won't be playing 2nd for too much longer. Interesting situation...makes me glad I'm not the manager right now. And I like this stat very much: 79-1 this season when leading after the 8th.
Uh yeah.. could only go as far as one thread and four posts, without ever seeing the comments on Lidge. Same old same old whine from last year, "stupid wild card! stupid system! greedy Bud Selig! letting LOSERS win!"
RISP is still our Achilles heel even in a win... Taking Willy T out is tough even though he hasn't done much lately, his speed is important when he gets on, then again it's RISP again.
That has to be the only thing standing between these Astros and a ticket to the big show. Clements' start on Saturday will be the key. He has to come out with better stuff than he did in Atlanta. If the Astros can just get up 2-1, then maybe the Cards will start to feel the heat. After tonight's performance by Oswalt, the rest of the pitchers have got to feel inspired to bring this baby on home.
Wow that website with the cardinals fans threads was pretty funny. They're scared silly when it comes to lidge and they make their team's offense sound as bad as ours. Their threads are like well pujols is good but walker, edmonds, grudz, and sanders were worthless as usual. Well I hope they play as poorly as they make the cardinals out to be.
Just got off work, and as I usually do on a night that I miss the game, I start from the very first of each game thread and read all the way thru. This was one of the best game threads ever. I noticed there are a lot of old timers posting, and of course, Mr Meowgi's wife stopped in to say hi JUST ONCE in my lifetime - Astros in the World Series
watched the game elsewhere, but i wouldn't miss it for the world. Go stros, go burke! And I believe Berkman will be out in full force in Game 3, back on the left side! --I think willy T is best-suited for the 8 hole barring improvement. Of course, not on this team with Everett and Ausmus (well, the usual Ausmus anyway). But for the future..
wow!!!! great game!!! my thoughts: 1. the cards came into this series as the "tight" team. the team that had the monkey on its back...the monkey of expectation. the astros have played loose. they look loose out there. 2. i grabbed this off of ESPN.com's Page 2 this morning: And now the Series has turned (especially if Reggie Sanders is out of Game 3) in Houston's favor in a pretty big way. Roger in Game 3? Back to Andy Pettitte at home in Game 4? I'll say it right now: The good people of Houston can start setting up the aluminum-framed lawn chairs outside the ticket window at Minute Maid. They're about to go Classic. Fall Classic, that is. Michael: I'm with you, brother. I'm already working the angles on which country music stars will be singing the national anthem at the World Series games in Houston the week after next. (For the record, MLB will miss the boat if it passes up on Charlie Robison, but the early money is on that already-has-been Gretchen Wilson.) http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=second/guessing/2005 3. Jason Lane is absolutely killing me. Hate to say ANYTHING negative after a win like that...but I'm still waiting on a quality post-season AB from that guy. 4. Astros in 6. Oswalt again at Busch. Closing down the stadium. UNLESS...unless we win on Sunday. I think we'll win Saturday with Clemens...if they find a way to win on Sunday with Backe....then I think they'll close it out on Monday at MMP with Pettitte on the hill. 5. What an amazing team. What a great story. Ridiculously resilient.
