Lamb might be the player of the game cuz of the homer and double, but don't discount Everett's diving catch, Burke playing a pretty nice center field, and QUALLS! being the "BTL." (Bridge To Lidge). Getting Pujols, Edmonds, and Walker (with help from AE) like that and retiring 6 in a row allowed Lidge to avoid the middle of that lineup in the 9th!
Suppan vs. Bake - Cardinals edge Carpenter vs. Pettitte - Cardinals edge Oswalt vs. Mulder - Astros Edge Clemens vs. Morris - Astros Edge This is gonna be a close one. But if we can get 1 of next 2 I like our chances in St. Louis.
Suppan vs. Bake - Slight Cardinal edge Carpenter vs. Pettitte - Dead even Oswalt vs. Mulder - Big Astros Edge Clemens vs. Morris - Astros Edge Let's not screw around, win tomorrow with bats, gloves, pitching whatever it takes.....then get Pettitte on the mound to close it out. DD
edited without red and black colored glasses: Suppan vs. Backe - Cardinal edge Carpenter vs. Pettitte - Cardinal edge Oswalt vs. Mulder - Slight Astros Edge Clemens vs. Morris - Slight Astros Edge Carpenter is the best pitcher in baseball right now. Oswalt and Mulder both pitched great games...and let's face it, clemens isn't exactly on his A game right now.
That slide was clean. Nunez was in the base path, and Lane was trying to block the throw but it was clean. Just a hard baseball play.
I think my DVR just stopped recording. :lol I have it set to record 5 hours worth of every broadcast. :lol I'm trying to protect myself against another 18 inning game.
Mark my words.....if the Astros win this series without letting it go back to STL, they will win THE series.
Take off the red and white glasses. "Pujols" may win the Cy Young, but he was not this year's best pitcher. Carpenter only has wins, K's, and Pujols over Pettitte and Clemens (1 and 2 in ERA), but Willis has Carpenter beat in ERA and wins. Willis is the guy I would vote for Cy Young. If wins and K's is all you look for in a pitcher as your statement "Carpenter is the best pitcher.." would suggest, Oswalt is to Mulder as Carpenter is to Pettitte. Despite this, one is a clear edge while the other is only a slight edge. The Cardinals "had" and may have a better hitting team after the injuries. The Astros have a better pitching team and still haven't used their best "anti-Cardinal" pitcher this series.
Try Astros edge. Take a look at season stats. Post All-Star break stats. Whatever your preference. Unless you're going to quote something completely irrelevant like W/L record, Pettitte is better. The point of a game for a pitcher is to prevent runs, and Pettitte does this at a better rate than Carpenter.
