Anyone know if there is going to be any outdoor viewing gatherings like they had downtown on Monday night?
HOUSTON, IT'S ALL SYSTEMS GO! We love our Astros in Houston, and all across the lone star state. We're Texas proud, and we shout it loud, our brand of baseball is great.
I have a real good feeling today. I woke up this morning with confidence that the Stros were going to take care of things tonight. I've had this feeling before, on the days of the Atlanta game, the last game with the Cubs and games 2 and 4 of the NLCS. I had the exact opposite feeling when I woke up on Monday.
Roy will get the job done. We can hit Mulder. Still have faith in Lidge. The only thing we have going against us is having to play this game in St. Louis, but we've already won one there. So, I don't think it is as bad a situation as it could be. Gonna break out the Astros tee again tonight for some luck. I didn't wear it for game 5. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
For those of us old enough to remember the song: Here come the Astros, burning with desire, here come the Astros breathing Orange Fire. Here come the Astros with winning o*n their minds, here come the Astros, number o*ne every time…GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AS-TROS!!!! It may be maroon fire now, but I am still behind you. Go Astros!
I turned off the tube and listened on the radio for all of the Astros wins. I watched Game 5, so tonight, I will turn off the tube and gut it out with Milo.
Odd, I woke up today in one of those surreal confident moods. Yesterday, I was ready to call it, and give up hope. Today, I'm reminded of the following, and take solace in the fact that I know our local baseball club is made up of the right stuff. "I have one thing to say to those non-believers. Don't EVER underestimate the heart of a champion." Before the series started, I was saying Astros in 7. After Game 5, I was thinking Cards in 7. Today, I'm confident that the Stros will finish it in 6.
I felt better and better as the day went on yesterday. More and more the reality hit me that we are in a pretty good position with Oswalt tonight. All of the quotes out of STL in the past week have them saying that Roy O is the one pitcher they don't like to face. He is in their heads. As long as he keeps the ball down and is smart with Pujols, this game should be ours. Mulder is a very good pitcher on his own, but he hasn't exactly been clutch in these situations. I believe he's lost 2 or 3 game 7's with the A's. If we can get to him early and get in to that pen, the game is ours. Even if Roy isn't at his best, I feel more than confident enough in our pen to keep us in the game as they've done all during the playoffs. I truly think the most important factor to beating STL is keeping the annoying gnat off the basepaths. If Eckstien isn't on base, they don't have any other on base type guys in the lineup, except Pujols. Keep Eck in check, and good things will happen. Offensively, Lane is out of his funk, Berkman is on fire, Ensberg woke up a little in game 5, Burke and Ausmus are still hot, and Biggio is producing. Taveras will get the start tonight and should be able to create some problems for STL, just like he's done all season long. The NLCS ends tonight. Busch Stadium gets blown up tomorrow. LET'S GO ASTROS!!!!!!!!!!!
We MUST take care of business tonight. If you check out the weather, you'll notice that Thursday night has a 70% chance of thunderstorms in St. Louis. If it gets rained out Thursday, that means they play Game 7 Friday, and Mr. Carpenter would be coming back on 3 days rest. I definitely do not want to see that happen essentially nullifying the advantage of having 3 dominant starters.
This year at the ESPY's when they were going over the nominees for team of the year, they had a montage of the candidates with the Rascal Flatts "Bless the Broken Road" song playing over it. Ever since then (since it was aired during the season), I've equated that song with "special" teams. And I heard it today, and it made me think of our Astros and the wonderful ride they've given us so far!! Rascal Flatts - Bless The Broken Road I set out on a narrow way many years ago Hoping I would find true love along the broken road But I got lost a time or two Wiped my brow and kept pushing through I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you Every long lost dream lead me to where you are Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars Pointing me on my way into your loving arms This much I know is true That God blessed the broken road That led me straight to you I think about the years I spent just passing through I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you But you just smile and take my hand You've been there you understand It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true Every long lost dream lead me to where you are Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars Pointing me on my way into your loving arms This much I know is true That God blessed the broken road That led me straight to you Have faith and BEElieve!! Good things are sure to come. It'd be totally awesome if someone could put together an Astros highlight reel with this song playing over it. Go 'stros!!
