for more than my 20+ years of playing I've wanted to 'learn guitar' as well. Maybe one day, I'll learn. Til then I'm happy stumbling along with it. Game looks like, what I feel, is something that all those who play, and want to play better (or just learn a coupe of songs solid throughout), thought when they saw RockBand and Guitar Hero. "That would be cool if you just plugged in your guitar and actually played this."

I like those games alright, but this is appealing to me.

<s>Wait, so just any guitar straight in 1/4" audio? or you say USB? it comes with a converter, or what? I guess I could google that.</s> that's very cool.

It's a USB to 1/4" converter so anyone that has a guitar already can just plug theirs into it. So they're totally comfortable with it, etc. They bought some company a couple of years ago that had technology to convert analog audio to digital accurately.

man. I hate to break down NOW and get a PS3 (or XBOX, though I don't know that would be my preference), but looks like that is what's going to have to happen.

You could buy a used Xbox for low $100s. Still an outlay of cash but much cheaper than guitar lessons. I actually just bought a PS3 for this game. I was planning on getting one anyway since I needed a Bluray player for my media room but it was my first Playstation ever and really late in the cycle too.
    But I REALLY wanted Rocksmith.

Awesome. I have 4 guitars and don't really know how to play.
Tried lessons 3 different times and 3 different places and never really stuck with it. This game looks awesome. The whole concept of a game to learn things especially guitar seems very interesting. Going to get this and try it out.

Pre-ordered it today and will be picking it up tomorrow night.

As someone who has owned a guitar for 8 years but has struggled to get over the initial learning curve, this may just be what I've been looking for.

So how does the converter work? Would one be able to plug in an electric acoustic? or is it only electric?

I have limited funds for luxury purchases like this so I am anxious to hear feed back from people who buy the game.

So every Post how things go for you.

Just as a word of warning from what I have read so far this game is extremely latency sensitive on the audio. The developers are recommending you don't use Hdmi as your audio source because of lag. if you can find your stock cables use those for the audio or use the optical out.

I am tempted to just by the game on pc due to the lag factor and being able to take my laptop and guitar to almost anywhere and rock out.

Is there details on how they teach chords? It seems like the guy was just learning the timing of Slow Hands, but at the end he was actually moving his chord hand. Does it come with a usb adapter?

    yes it does.

The cord can also be bought separately from the game.

Anyone know if the game has a built in guitar tuner? I hate tuning.
I am thinking about buying the game this weekend.

Seriously considering buying this. I've been trying to motivate myself to learn guitar for a while and i think this is what I need. Its tough for me to spend the money though

Maybe I'll do that Toys R Us buy 2 get 1 free deal, since I was also getting Batman anyway.

I know they have 1000 chords in the game. Not sure how they teach it though. Possibly via the mini games?

Yes, it has a tuner. I saw it in one of the trailer videos.

Did anyone get this and play it yet? How was it...any lag?

Picked this up tonight...didn't have as much time as I wanted to play it, but still got a solid 3 hours in.

So far, I'm impressed. It doesn't try to be flashy and in your face like Guitar Hero and Rock Band - it's very calm and collected. I like the presentation, although the menu system could use a lot of work.

One thing is for sure - this game is DEEP. Aside form the 50+ songs, it has different arrangements you can play for each one, as well as technique challenges (hammer on/offs, sustains, etc.), mini games (I love Dawn of the Chordead), and don't even get me started on all the amp adjustments you can unlock.

Clearly this is a game that one must spend a lot of quality time with before coming to final conclusions, but it already feels like it's going to be the thing that finally nudges me to learn guitar. Absolutely no regrets about the purchase.

Oh, and if you don't have callouses worked up on your fingertips, prepare to rub them raw after a couple of sessions.

If there's audio lag for me, it's been insignificant to the point of not being noticeable. I'm using HDMI for video and composite cables for sound, which is the recommended setup to avoid audio issues.
