Any chance of a sweep? ...4 quality pitchers. ...A never-die attitude. ...Humbled by game 5 of the NLCS. ...and Hungry to win Same kind of things I saw from the '95 rockets. We'll start with Game 1. Astros 4 WhiteSox 2
I'm confident that the Stros will win this thing, but I think that some of you guys are over-optimistic. This White Sox team is very good. Their starting pitching is almost as good as ours and offensively they are very good at manufacturing runs. However, I do think that the advantage of our bullpen and the fact that we have the best pitcher left in the playoffs (Roy O) will win us the series. My prediction: Close series. Astros in 6.
World champions Astros in game 5. We can not end this magical ride w/o winning the world series. Finish the Sox and bring the trophy home baby. Go Stros!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TOP 10 PERKS OF GETTING INTO THE WORLD SERIES The list presented by Roy Oswalt on the Late Show With David Letterman on Thursday night: • 10. Another two weeks of wearing a cup and showering with the guys. • 9. Get to visit exotic, far-off destinations like Illinois. • 8. More time to discuss with the team doctor if Cialis is right for me. • 7. With the discount, beer is only 18 bucks. • 6. It's fine and all, but the good news is, I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico. • 5. Certificate good for one free groin pull. • 4. I get to appear on my favorite late night program — The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. • 3. World Series MVP gets to throw switch on Saddam's execution. • 2. Clemens used his AARP card to get us cheap hotel rooms. • 1. If Steinbrenner wants me next year, my price is now a billion dollars.
Proof positive the Astros will win: The White Sox players drink girly drinks. A.J. Pierzynski taking jello shots..
I don't know if I appreciate Letterman's writers having Roy present a list with the following item: • 5. Certificate good for one free groin pull. Especially given some of the problems he's had. Not good mojo, Dave. If something happens to Roy's groin in the Series, I'll widen the gap in your goofy teeth myself.
Come on guys. Go to ESPN and vote Houston as the better city. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/polling?event_id=1726
Heres the Paul Wall - They Don't Know Astros Anthem http://www.thefader.com/blog/files/theydontknow_astros.mp3 I think I could make a Astros cd now.
Alright, not to get too high on the Astros, but I think everyone is way too high on Chicago's starting pitching. Their rotation is deep, yes, but I don't think it's much better if at all than St. Louis. I know that doesn't automatically mean this will be an easier series, but as far as talent alone goes we saw better from St. Louis. Looking at the Cardinals we saw two dominant guys in Carpenter and Mulder. Contreras and Buehrle are both great pitchers, and all-star caliber, but I think they are just a notch below Carpenter and Mulder. Then you've got Garland, who had a phenominal first half but cooled down significantly later in the season...I'd say he's just a bit better than Morris or Suppan. Then you've got Garcia, who's probably got the edge over Backe talent wise but I don't think Garcia is better than any of the Cardinals 3/4/5 guys. Of course a big factor is that we have not seen any of these guys, and we all know what thats done to the Astros in the past...I think this will be different though. I also think that factor will be offset at MMP, where they won't have the luxury of leaving thier starters in a close game in the late innings like they did in the ALCS.
I agree diehard. St. Louis was the better team. Chicago is really good, but they have nothing on St. Louis.
Key to this series: SHUT DOWN PODS!!!!! The Sox went through a bad slump when he was injured and much like Eckstein with the Cards he's their catalyst. Couple of things I've been thinking: Both Pierynszkihfklhsd (whatever the catcher) and Ausmus have displayed IMO a much better bat in the playoffs then the regular season. Who's going to cool off? As someone else mentioned is they don't have a Pujols in the middle of the lineup who can single handedly beat you. Please Mo and Lane heat up I can't see the bottom of the order guys continuing to hit this well, (but Lordy it'd be nice). I don't fear the Sox anywhere near as much as the Cards. Edmonds/Pujols/Walker is much better then anything they have, no in their big 4 is as good as Carpenter or Mulder. It's destiny just like BoSox last year...a sweep just wouldn't surprise me....
OMG people this is so EPIC. Since I was 10 Ive been watching the Astros, and every year watching the World Series I would think to myself how awesome it would be to be watching my Astros play in the series. Its finally here. Ive been living off our Rockets championships, though they will always be the first and most glorious, we as a sports city need another title. By mid next week, we could have one. My god I am so pumped for this series. The stars are aligned folks. These playoffs and this Astros team does not compare to years past. For once, we are getting the clutch hits, we are converting the clutch defensive plays, we are getting umpire calls...what the hell is going on? I tell ya, the Astros are going to win it all folks. I can feel it in every bone in my body. NL CHAMPS!!!!!! ASTROS IN 5!!!!!!
