I know we're still in the series. But I'm really looking forward to hearing the reasoning for letting Lamb bat against a lefty with a high strikeout rate. If you're going to go with a lefty bat there, at least go with Palmeiro, who you can count on to make contact. The best option would be Burke, who starts ahead of Lamb against lefties anyway... so why not use him there? Lamb isn't good against lefties. He doesn't have a lot of power against lefties. He strikes out a lot against lefties. He was facing a high strikeout-type left-handed pitcher. Burke has hit well recently against left-handers and is good at bunting, while Lamb is not. Burke is also faster than Lamb when it comes to beating out a potential double-play ground ball. Palmeiro is reliable at making contact in that situation (which should be the first priority), while Lamb is not. I know it's just one at-bat... but I can't come up with any reason to explain what happened. Bizarre decision.
ensberg's always got some excuse last year it was a "shoulder" injury suck it up and play and stop ****ing grounding out everytime
I have NEVER once heard Ensberg attribute his recent struggles at the plate to his wrist injury. I merely reported what I heard from interviews with Garner about Ensberg's struggles. Plus, Ensberg's shoulder injury wasn't even known until Spring Training this year. The guy does not make excuses (he owned up to his shortcomings tonight). That said, a shoulder injury and wrist injury are both things that can seriously f**k up your mechanics and swinging motion. So it does make sense he hasn't hit for power this postseason, but again is no excuse for not even making contact in the 8th tonight. You would think we were down 0-3 with all the negativity on this board.
oh well, who would have thought we'd lost clemens early and still be in the game? I think thats promising. IF we get our butts kicked tomorrow, then i'll be concerned.
we lost game one against st. louis, nuff said. this is a long series folks and we have andy and roy up next.
It was a good game, both teams left a lot of runners on base, they both had chances to win and the White Sox pulled it out. Nothing we can do about it now, you move on to game 2 and see what happens.
Hard fought game; either side could have won. Their closer is scary. Great to see Baggy in there being effective.
Counldn't agree more. Our pitching was pretty lousy last night, and we left a TON of men on base (a chronic problem for the 'Stros) and still only lost by two runs. Personally, that gives me confidence that we can pull this thing off. Agreed. 0-2 is not a pleasant place to be. Any way we can have Roy O pitch Games 3-6?
As long as we get to game 6 and 7 we have a legitimate shot. That's all I'm looking for. Pettitte worries me the most because he's a slow thrower. The White Sox proved they can hit balls on the edges last night. So those are the iffy games for me. But if we can get to gaqmes 6 aqnd 7 there's no reason we can't win 'em.
if pettite is on, his "slow" throws have enough movement on them that i don't think we hafta worry. of course, that's when he's at his theoretical best. i think backe and clemens are the only iffy ones. i haven't been confident about roger starting a single game in the playoffs (or the last 6 weeks of the reg. season)... no reason to suddenly feel it now. Backe only b/c the sox have garland--who won a lotta games (but whom I still don't believe is as good as he seems to be..)
I wish we could pitch Roy today.. then have him for game 6. I can't wait till we dump the DH when they come back to MMP and hopefully have their closer Jenks come up to bat... maybe we can bean him.. cause that's the only way were gonna get a hit off him. Man.. I have to say tho.. that combo of Joe Buck and that other guy is a LOT better than those homers Bob Brenly or whatever that other fox crew was.
