Still floatin'. My Mom was up visiting, and it was a gas seeing her get so damned excited. She's 82 years old. What a game!!!
Really? Glenn Davis? He had to bat his way out of so many 0-2 counts, I suspect the guy was BORN with two strikes. Personally, I loved Jose and Craig Reynolds (who, if you ever talk to him, is a helluva nice guy with some hilarious stories to tell). Cruz is one of the great clutch hitters in the history of this club, and seemed able to just slap one over the shortstop whenever we needed it. Oh yeah, Astros in 6, but they're all tight games.
I think the Astros must get a split in the first two to have a chance to win, if they go down 0-2 I don't think they can come back and win the next 3 like last year. This series definetly should get the main attention from the country. Hopefully these teams can repeat this for a few more years and become the NL's version of Red-Sox/Yankees rivalry.
I was born in '80 so same kinda deal. Except my favorite player was Kevin Bass. No real reason other than one of the very first games I can remember going to in the Astrodome, he hit 2 homeruns in the same game. I used to love the huge target they would put on the screen up in the outfield for Glen Davis, along with the Superman theme song that they would play.
Yeah, I loved Glenn Davis. My most vivid memories of him were launching homeruns out of Wrigley Field on a regular basis... not sure why that sticks out most, just does.
That absolutely amazes me that he would pick the Cards starting pitchers over the Astros "Hall of Fame" lineup. That is utterly ridiculous.
I wondered why Sandberg has it in for the Astros, and I finally realized what it is: he's jealous of Biggio getting a shot at a ring. Anyone else agree?
Agreed 101% I wonder where Sandberg will hide the day Craig Biggio gets inducted into the Hall of Fame?
He's jealous that Biggio is easily the best second baseman of the modern era. At the end of their careers, if you put Roberto Alomar, Ryne Sandberg, Jeff Kent and Craig Biggio on a list and handed it to all of the GMs, Managers and Owners in the league and said "choose one to go back in time and have for their entire career" Biggio would win by a LANDSLIDE!
The Thing is, if Carpenter pitches three games as he is slated to do, then the Cardinals probably do have the advantage in the pitching category. He was the Cy Young. That's three games they are supposed to win. Even if by a small margin... They are supposed to win those three games. The Astros are no doubt the underdog here. They are overmatched statistically. It's going to take a herculean effort to overcome the cardinals.
Sandberg was something special to watch in his prime. A hall of famer for sure. (Steve Sax was awesome too, but no longevity at all.) At any rate, as awesome as Sandberg was, Bidge's career stands head and shoulders over Sandberg's, and Sandberg is coming off like a whiny has-been. Sad.
Not necessarily true. For one thing, Carpenter hasn't won the Cy Young yet. Not to mention, he hasn't maintained his earlier dominance while Andy has been the best pitcher in the NL over the last two months. At this time, I'd take Pettitte (a post-season phenom) over Carpenter.
Hey, I made that last year and forgot about it. I think I made some more and will try to find them. If I cant find them I will try to make some good ones.
Ryne Sandberg - He and Andre Dawson were my baseball heroes growing up. But he sounds like a hater right now. Maybe he is still messed up in the head after his wife had an orgy with all of MLB.
a post-season phenom whose ERA was almost a half a run better than Carpenter's for the season, as well.
