Crap. How did I miss Renly? Which scene was he introduced? Was it the first council meeting with Ned? Because I think I missed some of that scene since my 3 year old was running crazy and being loud.
Yes. Renly was introduced in the same scene Littlefinger, Varys, and Maester Pycelle were introduced.
I'm loving watching it with the mrs who has not read the books. So many important characters get introduced(such as Renly) that people who have not watched the books hardly notice.
Indeed. The writers need to work on that. Or maybe the director needs to freeze the screen for a second and do a cool text heading under each person 1970's style. wakka-wakka-wakka-wakka
I am sure they will re-emphasize who Renly is the next time he has an important scene. Spoiler perhaps next episode with Renly and Ser Loras. We should get a few more characters next episode. Probably Samwell, Ser Loras, the Mountain, and Bronn. There certainly are a lot of characters to keep track of though, and introduced even faster than the books.
Spoiler You know, reading it the first time through, I never caught that Loras & Renly were gay. I'm wondering if that's something they're going to make a little more obvious to the viewing audience on the show.
Spoiler I never caught that either the first or second time. After the events in the Feast of Crows I started thinking that Loras and Martgery were possibly following in the same tradition as the Targaeryans and Jaime and Cersei. It was just a guess with nothing but circumstantial evidence.
re: Ser Loras and Renly in upcoming episodes spoiler Spoiler I have heard rumors that they do indeed have a love scene of some type this season. Looking forward to Bronn a lot.
The new book/manuscript. That's a whole lotta paper. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150176352842173&oid=161910773833999
I wonder how many pages it will end up being when everything is put into book form. Any words on that?
Forgot to add read. Unreal to think I will READ all of that...quickly. Obviously I can read faster than I can type.
I haven't read the books or watched any previews. Just watched the first 3 episdes, and I'm confused on the history. Who was the king before Robert, what was Robert's relation to him, and how was Robert chosen to be the King?
Look back in the thread for links that has a bunch of information on the books. But to quickly answer your question: Aerys Targaryan was the king prior the Robert. He was known as the Mad King. Robert had no blood relation with him. Robert led an uprising that overthrew him and that is how he became the king. Some call him the Usurper because of this and want the old blood line back in charge.
The spoilers just have history, most of which was discussed at some point in the first three episodes. Spoiler http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Aerys_II_Targaryen Aerys II Targaryen (the father of Viserys and Daenerys) Spoiler http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Robert_Baratheon
Not really any give-aways, but just in case... Spoiler The king before Robert was named Aerys Targaryan II, who is the father of the platinum-haired siblings Viserys and Daenaerys. Aerys was known as the "Mad King" due to his, well, madness. He killed quite a few people in gruesome fashion, including Ned's father and older brother. His older son, Rhaegar, supposedly kidnapped Ned's sister, Lyanna (she's the one whose body/statute Robert visited in the crypt when he went to Winterfell and engaged to get married with Robert at that time) and when Ned's older brother went to confront Rhaegar, Aerys had him arrested, call Ned's father to answer for the charge, then Aerys killed both of them in a gruesome fashion. Robert and Ned rebelled against the Targaryans, eventually won, and Robert became king.
