I went to Bestbuy today to buy a baseball game for the PS3. I thought I heard someone mention a game with Pro (or the show) in the title. Where you could control one player and develop him etc. All I saw was MLB 2K8.
I don't know crap about baseball but I do hear a lot of good things about The Show. Sounds unique. If you like baseball I would think its something you have to at least rent. You still in College Station uprising?
Yep, still in CS. So it is called the show. Disapointed BestBuy didn't have it. Wonder if it's a newer game (new rosters). I'll have to do a search online. So what do you think of GTA?
Installing right now. I am about to let it rip like back when I was a teen on the first night of summer break. All nighter for me. And its the good kind for once.
lol. Enjoy it man. I only had 1hr to play cause my gf got off work after my PS3 and game arrived, but I played for like 6hrs the next day when she was working.
Its called mlb 08 the show, and it is better then mlb 2k8. Havent been playing the show as much since gta 4 has been out.
I can tell you after playing this game for only 10 minutes I could tell that this game was anything but PC. In fact it may be the furthest game from PC I have ever seen.
I think it was expected that GTA IV would make a ton of money. I think Take Two would have to show that they can make a lot of money on games not called GTA in order to avoid being taken over by EA. GTA has pretty much been the only successful franchise for them. They have had some success recently with other franchises though (BioShock, publishing Oblivion, etc.). I can't recall how the basketball franchise is doing sales-wise, although I imagine that has been going well for them given the competition. Or I hope that is the case. This actually reminds me of rumors at one point that Rockstar wanted to break off from Take Two. I'm not sure if anything has changed there. I can't even remember if Rockstar can technically do that. Maybe my sarcasm detector is broken, but isn't that pretty much the case right now (except for maybe bad graphics)? MLB 08 The Show came out about the same time as MLB 2K8 IIRC. They have downloadable roster updates every week IIRC, so technically it does have new rosters. Here's the Amazon page for it: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-98141-ML..._1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1210262982&sr=8-1 It is a really good baseball game IMO. I'm only a casual baseball fan, but I spent a lot of time playing MLB 07 and MLB 08. As mentioned, there is no PC version. At least not right now. It is kind of expected that there might be one later on down the line, but there are no guarantees.
I don't know guys. I played and finished the game, just b/c I wanted to complete it. To me, I don't understand why this line of games (GTA) is held in such high regards. It's got some entertainment value of course since I played it all the way through, but I didn't do 100% since it's just all so repetitive. Although there were some nice rewards such as stealing or receiving really nice cars, I found they would just stay in front of my safehouses as I took cabs around to be faster. My choices of killing or not killing people didn't seem to make tha tmuch difference. Oh whoopie, I get a few percentage points of thumbs up or thumbs down. And what for? So they can call me to spend time with me that gives me no reward in the game. The ending was anti-climatic for me. No spoiler here, surrise, you kill someone. I thought it would be some cinematic up close type thing...nope. I shot the guy through some bushes on accident, hahah. Given, I haven't played the game online, but comparing single player to single player, I could play CoD4 multiple times through and enjoy it than to play GTA4 over again (or continue playing after it's "one"). Maybe I'm missing the whole point of it...why is this game so "great?"
This isn't true. Certain contacts, when you get to a certain respect/friend level, open up new options. For example, Roman will enable you to use a more 'instant' taxi service, and Little Jacob will Spoiler show up with a trunk full of weapons and supplies for you to buy Not all games are for everyone. Some just won't 'get' them. I, for example, have never cared for racing games (other than Burnout). For me, some of the reasons GTA is impressive because: 1. Open ended gameplay. This doesn't just mean 'the city'. You could literally create your own ways of entertaining yourself and see different outcomes/reactions each time. Some things are scripted in the missions themselves, but to have that much of a 'sandbox' to play with really gives you your money's worth. That's not to say the city and the 'go anywhere' aspect isn't impressive, because it is. 2. High production values. Game is so well made it's almost like a movie. Generally good writing and voice work. And then all the little things like the radio stations thrown in for a very complete game. 3. Exploration. Much like Oblivion (though not quite as good), you can just wander around and try and find stuff. I like the idea you can take the game at your own pace. I'm not one who believes it is the Greatest Thing Ever, but GTA games have a lot going for them. It's just a matter of how you play it.
I've owned Vice City and San Andreas, but this is the first GTA game that I've actually really liked. What killed the other games for me is how boring the actual missions were, and how little I cared about the characters. This one is totally different for me in both regards, especially the story, which I'm really eager to play through. Niko is awesome.
Yeah i couldn't find a pc version, but i hoped that somebody knew of plans to make a pc version. unfortunatly there do not seem to be plans
It's funny, because, I am sort of bored with GTA now after playing for like 5 or so hours....... I feel like I am missing something......
Yeah I know, but those really take no time to "earn." Do a couple of missions with them, and you're golden. The open-endedness is kind of cool, but at the same time, to me, all they did was artificially make a game that can be long instead of putting more into the actual game. It's really no substance, it's just...ok, when you are ready to take on a mission go to the letters on the screen. Otherwise, you can drive around mindlessly. As i said, it's not that it wasn't an entertaining game, I just think the actual draw from most people (aka kids) is that you can shoot people, run from cops, steal cars, (before mess with hookers), etc. That part is a little saddening, but we won't get into that. I would have liked for the game to be more...I don't know...scareface like. You come broke, work you way into being a rich bast. Wasn't one of the other GTAs like that? Make it a little RPG based as well...kind of like Oblivion or even Fable. As you do more stuff, you get more clout/respect, you become more proficient with weaps that you use more, less proficient with those you don't. If you run around a lot, you look more trim, if you ride around all the time, you look fatter. I think adding more to the actual game play would have made this game truly a good game worthy of all the hype and sales numbers.
Vice City had heavy Scarface influence. And Vice City and San Andreas had both main characters starting as low level thugs who end up building up their own crime organization. So GTA has been there and done that. Why do it again? Niko's motivation isn't to become a crime boss. After the war in his home country, he fell into a life of crime. There are several reasons he came to America. One is to get revenge one somebody who committed an atrocity that he believed destroyed his life. The other is to get a fresh start. He doesn't want to be a criminal. Unfortunately, that's pretty much all he knows and he quickly falls back into the life partly due to the circumstances involving his cousin and partly because of his past catching up with him and new associates creating new problems. The whole story is about the path he takes get his ultimate revenge. Almost everything he does is a means to an end. He wants to turn away from the life but he desire for revenge pulls him in the other direction and it forces him to make some tough choices, especially when there are consequences for his new friends and family. With this in mind, it doesn't make sense that he would build his own syndicate and try to take over the city himself. That was never part of his motivation. If there's one problem I have with the story, it's that sometimes Niko seems too willing to do the missions. I think they should have played up his inner struggle more.
A few EA games that i have played on PS3 have bad graphics. Especially NBA LIVE 08 graphics are only nice during timeouts and stuff. Yeah it is the case right now lol have you tried playing an online game of Skate... or nba live 08 ? LAG.
You think I would actually waste my time by trying out NBA Live 08? I probably should have tried out Skate (actually a good next-gen sports game from EA), although I think I might wait until the sequel. EA seems to be hit and miss when it comes to graphics. I guess most of their sports games have pretty poor graphics (except for Skate IMO), but some of their other games look pretty good. Of course, I don't know if you want to count something like Burnout Paradise as a EA game or as a Criterion game published by EA. And Crysis is technically an EA game as well. I don't know how EA would treat GTA, so it could either end up with crappy graphics or decent graphics. Who knows, if they really poured enough money and resources into it, it could even look better than it does right now...but that doesn't seem to be the EA way.
