My cousin got this game the other day for 360, and I tried it out for about 10 minutes yesterday. I laughed the whole time. There is nothing like hood surfing thru the city then blowing yourself off the hood with a strategically placed rpg. Flipping thru the air on fire was a nice touch; but when my body was parallel to the ground, and you could see the street below; the car I launched from blew up below me. Simply brilliant. My cousin was sniping people on the steps of the police station (or maybe city hall) He targeted a guy but the first shot hit him in the arm. The second shot took him out. After the second shot was fired a pedestrian walking in front of him showed up in the scope (all you could see was the head) he got out "What the fuh..." and then his head exploded from the bullet. You could read his lips and everything. I am looking forward to renting this for an extended tryout (have to make sure it doesn't give me motion sickness like some similar games) and then buying it.
OK, I'm on the last mission. I guess there are 92 mission and not 90 like I thought. I tried it on3/4 once and made it about 3/4 of the way through. I don't think it's really that hard but it's really long and if you screw up on any part you have to start over.
I'm only part way through the game and its brilliant. It got me thinking though about things I'd like to have seen in the game that aren't there. Anyway, I'm bored, so here is my list: Spoiler *Being able to add more custom details to Niko like Tattoos, hairstyles and a wider variety of clothes. I liked that in GTA:SA, it was just something extra to play around with. *The ability to give a positive or negative response to people you bump into on the street. It would be good fun to hear all responses Niko would come up with before you kill someone that tries to start a fight with you! *Being able to buy drugs. Maybe you can at some point....or maybe thats been edited out of the Aussie version. But being able to buy drugs and they effect Niko in that his aim while shooting is very shaky or maybe he gets the munchies! *Being able to buy safe houses. I enjoy saving up to move into better places....but maybe thats coming along later in the game. *The ability to become a drug kingpin or pimp. Having to claim your own turf, starting of small, having to pay your street dealer or hookers and deal with any problems that arise. There are a heap of side missions in this alone, like having to smuggle in drugs, transport them to dealers, protect your turf and the like. *A bigger screen on the mobile phone so its easier to read text messages. Sometimes I just can not read them at all! *Illegal gambling houses. Would be fun to go in and play poker, or maybe add that to the idea of setting up your own turf and running illegal gambling yourself. *Add some kind of massive bomb to the game that you can level a city block with. Even if the aftermath is very much the same no matter where it goes off, you cant tell me you wouldn't love planting that bomb, and looking back to see complete carnage! Hell its why we all line up cars and throw in the single grenade! Anyway thats just a few ideas for now. Try not to spoil the game for me in any replys.....I don't want to know whats ahead of me!
LOL, saw some dude get pulled over and then the cops started searching his car. They then went back to the driver side window to say" You know why I pulled you over right? Reckless driving. " Freakin brilliant detail.
I shot someone in a restaurant and ran outside. I notice the guy working behind the counter pulled out a shotgun and chased me outside where there are several cops present. They start shooting at him, and he shoots them back. I just sit back and laugh while they have a shoot out with the wrong guy.
OK, I just beat it. I'm watching the credits now. The last mission was harder than I thought but for the reasons I said earlier. I'd get through the first 7 or 8 minutes with no problem and then screw up right near the end. Very good story. The last few missions really bring everything together. I think there's more intertwining of all the characters in this one that there was in previous GTA's.
btw this site is awesome for mission help http://www.mahalo.com/Grand_Theft_Auto_4_Walkthrough they have videos for every mission really helpful if you get stuck
Some asians started shanking me in chinatown. For no reason!!!!! ....oh and why can't I shag Kate!?!?!?!
Grand Theft Auto IV' Posts Record First-Week Sales Game publisher reports that it sold 3.6 million copies on first day of release. By Stephen Totilo First it earned an unprecedented streak of perfect review scores. Now Rockstar Games has some even bigger numbers to boast about: the sales of "Grand Theft Auto IV." The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 crime adventure in Liberty City sold 6 million copies worldwide in its first week of release, exceeding analysts' predictions. According to a release from the game's publisher, Take-Two Interactive, it took in $500 million after selling 3.6 million copies on its first day of release. Those figures break the previous opening-week record of "Halo 3," which netted $300 million in sales in its first week. In the U.S., "Halo 3" sold 3.3 million first-week copies, according to sales-tracking firm NPD. (Worldwide figures for first-week sales of "Halo 3" were not available at press time.) In a statement to investors, Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick said the game's "first week performance represents the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment. We believe these retail sales levels surpass any movie or music launch to date." Zelnick did not reveal how the sales broke down between PS3 and Xbox users. That ratio may prove a key factor in the ongoing console battle between Sony and Microsoft. Previous "GTA" games launched first on the PlayStation 2, helping the platform maintain a solid lead over the original Xbox. "GTA IV" was the first installment to launch on both machines, only skipping Nintendo's Wii among the modern gaming consoles. Giant sales of Rockstar's game had been expected. In March, financial analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities predicted that Take-Two would ship 6 million copies of "GTA IV," a massive initial delivery of games. Most competing publishers steered clear of releasing games against "GTA IV," with the notable exception of Nintendo, which slated its latest "Mario Kart" game for release on the Wii just two days before the Rockstar epic. The "Mario Kart" series has been historically among Nintendo's best-selling franchises, and this new game isn't playable on systems that play "GTA IV" — and vice versa. Last week, members of the movie industry expressed concern that the success of "GTA" would cost the movie "Iron Man" some viewers. While it's not clear to what extent that happened, given that the film still raked in more than $100 million, the "GTA IV" figures trump all movies on that top-10 list. Take-Two is hopeful that high sales of "GTA IV" will increase the company's value and improve the company's bargaining position with competitor Electronic Arts, which has been trying to purchase the "GTA" publisher with a stock buy-out during the past several weeks. "GTA IV" sold in two editions: a basic $60 game-only version and a $90 version that included an artbook, music CD and duffel bag. The previous console installment of the series, the 2004 "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," has sold 21.5 million copies, according to Take-Two. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1586971/20080507/id_0.jhtml
EA would port GTAIV over to the Wii, PS2, PSP, DS, GBA, Mobile Phones, N-GAGE, Dreamcast, and every other gaming platform you could think of.
haha yeah, and the next GTA will be absolute crap. Full of bad graphics, all sorts of glitches and BAD SERVERS for online play (ps3 only)
I still think EA gets Take Two. Bye bye NBA 2k Anyhoo, I am off to get this game. Finally. See you guys online once I get a hang of things. Haven't owned a GTA in awhile.
That's the thing that is absolutely killing me about EA. I have always bought their sports games in the past (the last time I bought a b-ball game was in 2003 and I bought a 2K game though), but the quality of their products has gone down whenever they have eliminated any competition. Their exclusive NFL contract has been terrible for Madden, and NCAA Football only has marginal year-to-year improvements since they have no competition.
I hear you. NCAA was by far my favorite title. Its all been going downhill since 04. Haven't played NCAA religiously in a long time. Yet I still wait in anticipation like an idiot, buying the game at midnight. Either I better learn or EA better step it up.
