Damn, it looks badass. I can't wait. I've loved all their previous games. By far one of the most PLAYED series of games I own. I never get tired of blowing sheet up.
Kind of obvious when you look at it, but just to clarify, this is a Europe-only bundle. And technically, it hasn't even been confirmed, still kind of in the rumor phase. There's an insanely hi-res version of this image out there though (similar to other PR images from Sony), which combined with a few other things, makes it seem like it is probably true. The rest of the screens (Gamersyde says Rockstar released these, haven't paid enough attention to figure out whether they're released or leaked): http://www.gamersyde.com/news_6274_en.html You know you have some nice animation technology when you can appreciate it in screenshots. I love Euphoria tech.
I reserved my copy already. I'm so pathetic that even though I'm pretty much broke I reserved the Gamestop "Limited Edition".
April 29? Can I preorder at Best Buy? I have a gift certificate reward there that expires on the 26th Personally I got tired of the GTA games pretty quick. But maybe some next gen gimmicks will have me going. I haven't bought anything on the PS3 in awhile.
So what is the multiplayer like? Do you just join an online city with everyone else and start havoc? That would be my dream GTA multiplayer.
It isn't like a MMO, or at least I'm pretty sure it isn't (I've kind of been on a blackout for most of the recent info, so I might be mistaken). Probably a lot of sources you can check out for multiplayer details, but here's a brief description from Wikipedia:
LOL, this sounds like Jason Sudeikis from SNL as the right wing talk radio host. <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="170" height="380" id="tuner" align="middle"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="menu" value="false" /><param name="movie" value="http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/wet/wktt/tuner.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /> <embed src="http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/wet/wktt/tuner.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" menu="false" width="170" height="380" name="tuner" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="always" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" ></embed></object>
It is looking unbelievable in terms of MP. I know exactly what to expect from the single player and how the missions will play out, but the MP is uncharted territory. As more information comes out about it, I'm becoming more and more interested. Plus, this is the only AAA title coming out for a while. It will more than get it's fair share of my video game attention.
Joystiq Link GameTap has finally gotten a chance to share the previously embargoed details of their recent hands-on time with Grand Theft Auto IV. Spoiler The preview discusses four of the game's fifteen online modes: Team Deathmatch, GTA Race, Cops 'N Crooks (a Counter-Strike style team match) and Hangman's Noose (a co-operative escort mission). Among the interesting details discussed (some of which have also been revealed elsewhere): Previously rumored 16-player online play is confirmed. The online maps aren't changed in any way from single-player -- you can still drive vehicles from one end of the city to the other, if you want. There's no co-op option for the single-player missions, but many online modes allow for cooperation. Ranked online matches earn players in-game cash for character customization. Higher difficulty means more cash. Race mode can be played with or without weapons. The volume of other characters voices will vary depending on their distance from you. "So if you hear an enemy's voice, he's probably right behind you and it's too late." The most telling quote in the preview is Vice President of Game Development Geronimo Barrera's suggestion that "after players earn the cell phone in the single-player game (which takes about five minutes), if they want they can jump online and never even play the single-player again." With the extremely varied multiplayer options, we might just be taking him up on that. Note: GameTap's servers are getting hit pretty hard, so the Read link may not load for a while. Here is Gametap story:
I wonder - will this be one of those franchises where it is platform-independent? I mean, will you be able to play online on your 360 and play against players on their Ps3 ? Or vice-versa? I have both systems, and everything I hear is that when a game comes out on both systems, it is invariably smoother and more refined on the 360 than on the Sony, at least so far. But if I wanted to indulge myself in a little CF mayhem, would we all need to be on the 360, or the PS3, or what? How is that going to work?
