I'm not going to make any predictions. I'm just going to say we MUST win this thing TONIGHT. WE DO NOT WANT TO GO BACK TO ST. LOUIS!!!!!!!
Whoever scores first will win. That being said, I'm not sure the Astros can beat the White Sox, but hey, the angels won it in 02, so i'm not counting them out.
no predictions, but I do think we need to close it out tonight. I expect the Cards to go down swinging and this should be a good one......I am so pumped up about tonight I can hardly stand it. The bad part is my Dad and I share season tickets and when I was transfered to Omaha a few months ago I know I would miss something great
Nothing like TIVO-ing the game only to have it cut out early. I missed the Brad HR and several innings when we beat Atlanta in the last game. I had to tell it to record the next program but I missed a few innings before I even realized. Damn TIVO...not smart enough!
With excellent starting pitching, solid defense and an outstanding bullpen the 'Stros are in prime position to close out the Cards tonight. Looking at just the scores of the previous 4 games (5-3 STL, 4-1 HOU, 4-3 HOU, 2-1 HOU) we can see just how close the series has been. That being said, if the Astros can score 4 or more runs tonight, we will be celebrating their first trip to the World Series. Ever.
MadMax (once again) speaks for a lot of what I am feeling right now. I tie so much of my Astros journey with my family...learning the ins and outs of the game from my uncle. I was at the game five heartbreaker loss against the Phillies in 1980. Orange blood runs deep in me. I have never been more proud of a team ever. I will not bring down the wrath of the Baseball Gods by assuming the Astros have won anything. If the Astros pull out this series I will only be slightly more happy than I already am. For all of those years...for Bill Doran, JR Richard, Joe Sambito, Jimmy Wynn, Enos Cabell, Joe Neikro, Jose Cruz, Billy Hatcher, Denny Walling, Charlie Kerfield, Dave Smith, Terry Puhl, Gerald Young, Dicky Thon, Joe Morgan, Gene Elston, Larry Dierker, Glen Davis, Roger Metzger, Cesar Cedeno, Nolan Ryan and Ken Caminiti....I will be watching today with the rich baseball tradition of Houston on my mind and feeling proud to have witnessed so much over the years. Go Astros!
everything you said resonates with me....but this does the most. a-freaking-men. never more proud of a team. what an amazing story. don't ever count them out. ever. they've showed us that on the macro level when they went 15-30 and rebounded..they showed us that on the micro level, particularly in that 18 inning game when they appeared to be headed back to Atlanta. just an amazing team. what a great story.
I wasn't able to watch yesterday's game because I had to go work on a group project for a class. Today at 7 I have an information meeting with ExxonMobile for an interview I have Wednesday and another group meeting I have to go to immediately after.
Everyone who has been here long enough knows my feelings about Drayton. I didn't create a thread about Drayton cause I don't want to jinx us. If we win the pennant tonight, there should be thread thanking Drayton. He stuck to his plan and hopefully he will be vindicated tonight.
I'll add that with my own family/Astros connection. My grandparents lived on a ranch and didn't have AC. They couldn't see spending the money on it. They did have a black and white TV though so they could watch baseball. Everything else there was from another time period. My parents got season tickets, and participated in a Fantasy baseball league that has since been named after them since they both passed away. My mother was able to see games at Minute Maid, and she even got to see her name on one of the bricks at the park. It was a gift to her from the family. She was even on with Marvin Zindler after the stros messed up her season tickets one time. I was an Astro Buddy as a kid and had Juaquin Andujar, and Enos Cabel's autograph. I will especially remember when Ausmus hit that game tying homer against the Braves. In the fantasy league baseball, my mother would always draft him, or pay to keep him on the team depending on how the draft was set up. I was there against the Phils in 80 and have sad memories of the 86 extra inning game as well. My brother's family and Sister's family are both part of groups that have purchased various season tickets with groups of people and split the games. I know my brother gave up one of his CLS tickets to make sure he would get at least one WS set of tickets. So this is a huge moment for me, and my family, and is tied in with the memory of my parents. I really hope we win.
The White Sox did it last night with great pitching so lets see if the Stros can do it with even greater pitching. Things aren't going to be easy though the Cards have their backs against the wall and are going to come out swinging. Nothings guarenteed so lets not even think about the World Series until we get past the Cards.
Astro-nomical, Go Astros!l!!! be ready to implode bush stadium, cuz they wont need it anymore after tonight JEJEJEJEJEJEJEJEJE
I'm still at work, was asked to stay over at 5:00 again :-(... I'm waiting on this dumb ass ASP developer to test her changes so I can go home.
