Got it for my 360, never really like the game. It was an average experience, the "Matrix" slow mo combat system is great at first but gets boring pretty quickly. I am never into collecting stuff to buy upgrades not unless they are super human abilities. Never gave this game too much time, GEoW 2 had me hooked for 6 months now.
Well I'm not addicted to Fallout 3, but I am playing Mass Effect for the first time and I am freakin addicted to that! If anyone hasn't played Mass Effect yet, I'd highly recommend it. After all is done, I'm thinking this might end up being my favorite game of this gen. I tried Fallout 3 before starting Mass Effect, but the whole world and hearing people saying "I spent 100+ hrs in this game," was really intimidating. I also didn't quite like the VATS system as it ended up feeling very limited to me. Maybe I'll give it another shot after I'm done with Mass Effect.
I loved Mass Effect and at the time it was also my favorite of this gen. However with Fallout the scope is just so much more.. epic. The idea that there are no limitations to where you can wander and explore, the vast game world, that's what put it ahead of Mass Effect for me. The story for Mass Effect was great, and very cinematic, however the game itself was quite linear. That, to me, is a drawback, especially for a RPG. I guess this may be a matter of preference, since if a massive and explorable game world seems daunting to you, Fallout is not your game then. With that said I am eagerly anticipating Mass Effect 2.
I agree. It may also be that the last RPG I played was Super Mario RPG on the SNES. I hated the turn-based fighting and pretty much never played an RPG again until Mass Effect just now. It seems like I've missed out on a lot. I also probably like Mass Effect more because of the shooter elements involved with the RPG aspects. As for Fallout 3. It was just the size and scope of the game. For someone that hasn't played an RPG for the last 10-15 years, Fallout 3 seemed like too much. Hopefully I'll like it more after completing Mass Effect. And yea, Mass Effect 2 looks amazing!
It's nothing like those... it's Oblivion with guns. And that's a complement. Yeah, I never used the VATS system while I was playing this and probably never will when I go back to it, either. It seems just like a system for beginners who can't shoot straight. I'd rather hit someone all on my own, thankyaverymuch...
Try VATS a couple of times just to experience the cool graphics. Especially if you make the rail way gun that shoots rail road spikes.
I've beaten it a couple of times, and all the expansions (although there's one more coming out). I love it, and I still play it frequently. Actually thinking about starting a new guy, although instead of a tank make him a stealthy guy. Lots of sneaking and sniping.
It's the only thing you can use against feral ghoul reavers... otherwise, you are toast.. even at level 30.
Just finished the main quest. I had heard some bad things about the ending, so I was sort of expecting something bad. Unfortunately, don't know if that helped too much... But besides that, everything seemed very well done for the most part, and I really enjoyed the game (and will continue to enjoy it I'm sure). Bethesda seems to be doing a good job on improving on some weak areas, at least IMO.
