You can go to Gamevideos.com and download them. Not sure if they are in a much higher resolution though. The GS video is like 200-300MB for a 50-min video, so it isn't much better.

I like these embedded videos for giving people a rough idea of what to expect, but you're right that their quality sucks for seeing the finer details.

Pokemon Battle Revolution will be released on June 25th, and it will be the first game to show off the Wii's online functionality apparently.

There is a bunch of stuff (Fable 2, Forza 2, Warhawk, Mercenaries 2, DX10, XBL on the PC, etc.) that I haven't really gotten a chance to post much of yet. The usual sites have updates (and in some cases, videos), so you can check them out now if you want. I'll try to recap some things when the week is over, and I have a little more time to let everything soak in.

I just got back from class, and it seems like Miyamoto announced he was working on a new Wii channel:

At his GDC keynote speech today, Shigeru Miyamoto teased us by saying he was working on a new Wii channel. Apparently, the new channel will allow users to compare their Miis with others around the world and hold popularity contests to see which Miis are the favorites.

Of course, Mii Parade already lets you compare your Miis with your friends. Perhaps this new channel will allow users to view Miis from people with whom they haven't exchanged friend codes.

That was all Miyamoto had to say about the matter, unfortunately. But stay tuned for some hot new Mario Galaxy footage on IGN later today.

We put some questions to Sony about Home, one of the main revelations of Phil Harrison’s keynote speech at GDC. Here’s the substantial set of answers we got back…

First up, here’s some key points about Home that they provided us with:

• Is the first of its kind on a computer entertainment console
• A unique blend of community, user-generated content, collaboration and commerce that is the future of computer entertainment.

“Yes, when it launches Home will be a global network service.”

“We will be executing a closed beta this spring. The official launch date will be later this year.”

What’s your ambition with Home?

But isn’t Home a rip-off of Xbox Live?
“Home is a first of its kind 3D community that allows for open interaction between consumers, SCE and third party partners. It is a truly interactive, global community of users. Xbox Live is a static, 2D, text-heavy environment that can’t match the rich community features found in Home. Xbox Live community interaction is much more passive and limited to the members on that friend’s list.”

Sounds a bit like Second Life?
“Home is a much more rich, user friendly experience than Second Life, allowing for ease of entry and use, as well as being fully-functional with the technology and capabilities of PS3.”

And how are you going to make money from it?
“The business model for Home is based on a combination of ecommerce and advertising revenue, but we will not discuss the exact details of our business model.”

Can third party partners get involved?
“They’ll be able to build their own custom lobbies for their products, where they can present information to users, provide downloadable content and implement various ecommerce models. Advertising options will also be made available through Home, in addition to sponsorship of in-world events and Home real estate.”

What is the difference between Home and PS Store?
“Home is a real-time online 3D, networked community available on the Network, while the Store offers free and premium digital goods delivered directly to your PS3.”

How big is the Home download?
“The Home download is targeted to be under 500 MBs.”

The game will be out late Spring/early Summer apparently. Sooner than I expected, although partially because I heard it would be released in the Fall not that long ago. 1 of 150 titles in development for the PS3 by SCEWWS.

GDC: Peter Molyneux Unveils Fable 2 Secret: dog sidekick

An A.I. dog partner, marriage with children, and "love" are three key ingredients to upcoming Xbox 360 RPG Fable 2.

Just minutes ago, Peter Molyneux gave one of his first presentations of the day concerning Fable 2, and he showed off a collection of new features that were originally intended to appear in the much-hyped first Fable game.

Molyneux described the first new feature as "risky, but worth the risk. A new canine sidekick will help players distract or threaten enemies, scout out new locations, and find hidden items. Molyneux described the feature as "something you've never seen before," especially in regards to the dog's intelligence. The dog will respond to your standard "yes" and "no" expressions, but is otherwise a completely independent character....aside from the fact that it will do nearly anything to help its master.

The dog will grow to adopt its master's traits, so a wicked hero will see his dog evolve into a Doberman pincher-like beast, while good-natured heros will boast furry, friendly pooches.

The dog will open up a key aspect of Fable 2: emotion. And, more specifically, love. Molyneux laughed as he described the importance of love in Fable 2, saying that reporters would be liable to call him crazy for his claim. But he insisted that the dog sidekick would open up all-new avenues of game design because it would make players forge an emotional bond with a fictional character. Molyneux described the dog's love as "infectious" in nature: "Once you start caring about [the dog," Molyeux explained, "I've got you." Molyneux explained that the dog would factor heavily into the gameplay in almost every way. At one point, the dog was injured during a battle and limped slowly back to its master. Molyneux, however, commanded his hero to leave the dog where it was, adding that the injured dog would slowly limp back to its home even if abandoned.

Another key feature has been added to Fable 2: sex. As before, players can find mates (and yes, same-sex marriage is still firmly in the game). But in a new twist, players can choose to have sex with a mate...and more interestingly, can choose to engage in protected or unprotected sex. The latter option can result in a pregnancy, even for the main character (females are a new option for hero characters). Once born, your offspring will bear a physical resemblance to your hero, and will celebrate your victories when you come by the homestead to visit the family.

What won't be in Fable 2? Miscarriages (Fable 2 "isn't a pregnancy simulation," Molyneux added), high-maintenance sidekicks (the dog "musn't p*ss players off"), and the mini-map from the first game (which Molyneux bemoaned as stealing all the attention from the graphics).

Molyneux shot down theories that Fable 2 would appear in 2007, though, meaning that 2008 is the most likely launch date for the game.

Overall, the graphics in the ultra-early build looked impressive but clearly unfinished. The dog was the most graphically detailed object on display, and featured advanced fur simulation, interpolated animation (which made for highly realistic movements), and massive outdoor environments.

Gametrailers has the video in HD, but no SD version. Never heard of it, nor have I seen anything about it since. The (HD) video got my attention though.

UT3 for the PS3 will allow for KB&M control (just use the USB ports).

Apparently, it was officially confirmed that Gears of War will be released on the PC. It will not be anytime soon though, probably coming out on PC around the same time Gears 2 comes out for the 360.
