The similarites are striking to me. Bad start to season after large roster change up, huge team chemistry playoff run comeback, road team wins first 2 games, trade for veteran SG's. The scary part is I felt better about Game 7 against dallas than I do about this game 6 in Utah. Our previous 3 losses in the dallas series had a combined margin of victory of 10 points.
don't you mean game 6 of 05 = game 5 of 08 if you're trying to imply that this victory will be followed up by a massive blowout elimination.
Well this thread is both optimistic and exactly what we need to hear!.... Maybe it is, but we should all just believe. Game 6 08 = Game 6 of 93-94 where we made huge offseason changes and we came back from 2-0 down and 3-1 down and the series and the championship . Thats what I am going to hope its like.
nobody saw the 40 point beat down coming look at our roster back then. it's amazing we made it to seven games. http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200505070DAL.html Yao Ming David Wesley Tracy McGrady Scott Padgett Bob Sura Jon Barry Mike James Ryan Bowen Moochie Norris Dikembe Mutombo
Damn, I am surprised...no good PFs at all..just a lot of unathletic white guys (save Bob Sura). I thought we had Juwan Howard? I think our guards on the 05 team were better though. Unless BJax and Rafer keep playing like yesterday.
we did. he was injured. i seem to remember rybo starting as well. i just posted it verbatim off the link.
all i know is Battier really wants to get his drink on in Salt Lake city "It's not like we haven't tasted what it feels like to have a celebratory beer after a game in Salt Lake," Battier said, "which you usually do, because it's so hard to get in Salt Lake, so you enjoy that one. Hopefully, we can get that celebratory beer again. That's the one place where, if you win, you feel really good about yourself." cheers Shane
this group is kinda overachieving too. if you look at tmac's history, you will never expect quick playoff exits in terms of a fast series. he has taken EVERY team he has played to the max amount of games. will this happen this yr? we'll see.
to me, our roster without yao right now isn't as good as our roster with yao in 05. rafer/bjax vs sura/james - a wash battier/head vs jon barry/wesley - a wash, wesley's 3point shooting >>> head present tmac vs 05 tmac - big advantage '05 scola/landry vs weatherspoon/padgett - big advantage '08 deke/hayes vs yao/deke - big advantage '05 the realist in me says we're going home in 6. the optimist hopes we can take the series.
That Dallas team was much better than Utah is today and the Rox defense of late is better than that against Dallas. We may still lose because Utah plays well at home, but I feel better about Friday then I did about winning a game 7 in Dallas back then. What I remember about that game was that the Rox got run out of the building early, I do not think the Jazz will be able to duplicate that against the Rockets. The Rockets have played well in all three games that Rafer has started. If the Rockets start the game with intensity they should be in good shape to win; all of the pressure is on Utah because they do not want to play a game 7 in Houston.
I actually feel the opposite. In '05, the Mavericks were the better team but were playing flustered and below their potential for a large part of that series. We had a lot do with that, of course, but once they got going, we didn't have enough to keep up. This year, the Jazz are deservedly favored, but I don't see the gap between the Rockets and the Jazz to be as big. Since Alston returned, we're playing them pretty evenly and that's not because the Jazz have been significantly underachieving, IMO. It's going to be really tough, but we can definitely pull out this game and send it to Game 7.
We had 2 double digit wins against them in '05 and all are lossed were closer than they are in this series.
super jerk... those role players like bowen, howard, wesley, james, barry didn't step up to their role... i know that carl, chuck, bobby, are sure to do that...
I agree with all that you say but the pressure is much greater on us than the Jazz, because there is no tomorrow for us if we lose. The Jazz certainly don't want a Game 7 in Houston but they still have the upper hand. I do feel that the Rockets have the capability of winning Game 6 and forcing a decider at home but this will be the hardest game of the entire series IMO.
