I have video of the group walking around staples center chanting. I will post it on youtube as soon as I get a chance.
I was there in my white Mcgrady jersey. I just happened to walk in right behind you guys so I walked with you and had my camera rolling the whole time. I fell back a bit sometime during the walk because I nearly got into a scuffle with a thug laker fan. The video I took is about 7 minutes long. It's sweet.
nice I think I remember you, you were down in the 106-107 section didnt they briefly show you on the jumbotron yesterday? I can wait to see thanks
No I was in 303. My buddy had a red Yao jersey on. We were at the Magic statue about the same time you guys were walking in. Did you see the girl dressed in the white pants with the white and pink Mcgrady jersey on??? Man, she was hot. Who was that?
Her and that other girl wearing a red tmac jersey were really hot..i told her she had to wear red she said pink was the new red, i gave her an extra red towel to wave (doubt she did) i saw their tickets they were in sec 102 right behind the rockets bench so they were more than likely one of the players "groupies" I would guess probably von's since afaik he is single and he used to be in LA with the lakers. they probably bought the jerseys last minute (you can really only get pink tmac jerseys anda ll)
Cool we were in 303 also. There was one guy with a White t-Mac jersey I think, and the fans were giving him a hard time. That sucks that the thug guy was messing with you during the video. A few of those people seem like they didn't have much else to cling to in their miserable lives and got threatened by folks cheering for the Rockets. Most of the fans were spirited but good clean fun. There were definitely some after the game that were a-holes. I'll have to check out the youtube video.
Yeah, the black guy with the white Tmac jersey was in our same row in sec 303. There was also another group of Rocket's fans in that row, but they were wearing normal clothing, but they were cheering the Rockets. Most of the Laker fans I ran into were actually pretty cool. Some were jerks, and then some were worthless with zero class. I also saw the hilton furniture guy and stopped to talk to him for a minute. That guy is always cool when I see him.
sorry we missed meeting up with you guys, but I have a question for the Rockets fans in attendance. Was it just my section, or were the Lakers fans HUGE jerks the whole time. Don't get me wrong, I know we give Lakers fans a hard time at Toyota Center, but they truly went above and beyond the call of duty. The section I was in turned and singled my wife and I out and yelled "Houston sucks" as a section - at least 5 or 6 times. The guy next to us kept talking trash, the whole game. The guy behind me kept leaning in and yelling "Go Home" in my ear (spit flying out of his mouth - nice touch). The guys in front of me kept turning around, separate from the rest of the section and yelled Houston sucks. When we went to get a drink at half time, we go yelled at non-stop by people in the line and walking by the line. I mean, I expected to get harassed - but they were so over the top they made Jazz fans look classy. I think the best "insult" from a Lakers fan was when he was telling us that Mutumbo wouldn't go into the Hall of Fame because he had no rings. I asked him how many rings Kobe had without Shaq. His response? "How many rings did Kenny Smith have without Hakeem." I laughed in his face. This is the level of intellect these Lakers fans have? They are putting Kobe and Kenny Smith on the same level? I just wish the Rockets could've done more to shut them up, but I kept saying "it took you 7 without Yao didn't it" and they never really had a good response to that. I was just curious as to how badly everyone else got treated at the game.
I guess it just depends where you sat. I got lucky, and was in sweet seats, lower level section 112, and had no problems from other fans at all. If anything they just felt bad for me for flying up for that game. Noone talked smack during the game, but there were like 2 or 3 people after the game that said stupid crap as I was leaving/hanging outside the arena. Overall the experience was great, I think the laker fans in general were one of the nicest I have dealt with. Again it all depends on which section I think. I also wasnt making a lot of noise during the game, was pretty hard to do after the start we had. Either way it was a lot of fun being there, im damn tired today, but if I had to do it all over again I would go in a heartbeat.
^^ there were two people trying to rile us up and at least for one guy me specifically... when the lakers came out to a 8-0 lead one guy in an odom jersey started to talk mess and i just said that the game is 48 minutes so no point of talking now. then he kept trying to get at me and i just ignored him i mean I kept looking at the court to see the game and didnt even so much glance in his section or change my expression. if anything that just pissed him off (I guess I shane "battiered" him by being stoic) and he stopped trying after seeing that I wasnt going to react. Another guy kept saying "houston you have a problem" over and over and I was just clapped and told him "oh man way to be original I havent heard that one before great job" and he stopped later. going out wasnt fun but there really anyone trying to get in my face they was a lot of cussing thrown at me, and laughing and all but I guess that was to be expected of any fans of any team. But I will say this going out of the TC for game 4 at least the people I was around were more classy towards laker fans. after the game it was more about giving props and cheering on the Rockets than trying to diss the lakers. in la it was different rather than appreciating and applauded the lakers and cheering for them they spent their energy trying to put down the rockets. but like I said I've lived in LA for the past 20+ years so I knew what was coming if the Rockets lost so it wasnt much of a surprise to me. edit: mrdave that cuz you were in the lower bowl..where generally most of the long time season ticket holders and celebrities/rich bandwagoners are. most of the time the long time holders have a good perspective of basketball and did appreciate the effort of the rockets the celebs and rich bandwagoners dont even care they just want to be seen. in the 300s sections is really just the drunk fans, the reg bandwagon fans and you will less and less actual laker fans up there. There was one guy who on the way out said that I had nothing to be ashamed of and that the rockets did really well...another lakers fan was trying to yell at us when they were leaving and the first lakers fan did tell him "dude they took us to a game 7 without yao and mcgrady we would get swept without gasol and kobe, heck we'd lose the series without gasol" afterwards the second fan yelling agreed said good series and kept exiting
Yeah, I heard some stupid insults. When I was in the restroom between the 3rd and 4th guys were just in there saying that Scola could suck their ****, and that he copied Sasha's look etc. Just idiotic 2nd grade level type insults and attempts at humor, that I didn't even respond to.
It was fun going around the Staples Center and being loud and chanting about the Rockets. Post-game, I just kinda zone out the insults and the constant "Houston sucks" chants. A couple of fans were nice and said "good series", but most of them were the insulting type. Honestly, the insults only shows how the Lakers fans were insecure about their own team and had to put us down constantly to assure themselves that their team is better. Our section threw less insults at us, but it's probably because we sat on the top row and nobody could really see us. I'd love the see the video as well. Did ABC show us on TV pre-game?
We were the only Rockets fan in our section (304) and were hearing it from the Lakers fans the entire time, and I even had people throwing peanuts at me. I made it a point not to respond to any of the lame attempts to insult Houston, the Rockets, me, etc. - just kept my eyes on the court; apparently, this pissed them off even more. On a side note, did any of you happen to see my brown sunglasses by chance? I think I might have dropped them while we were making the pregame rounds around Staples (I was wearing the red Olajuwon jersey).
I'm anxious to see video of the romp around Staples....I hope that is posted soon! That was the most fun I've ever had going to an NBA game by far! Thanks guys!
Peanuts thrown at you? Wow I didn't know the Lakers fans could sink that low. I almost forgot that we had one guy that kept yelling "Let's go rockets" sarcastically at us. Sorry about your sunglasses man, but time to get some red ones to replace them
Did you get the Hilton furniture guy on the video? "That's a Fact Jack" was in the house. Did you see the look on his face as we were walking toward him and his wife? Dude was speechless.
