Get the swimming trunks ready ya'll!!!!!!!!!! Galveston County, Texas: 17 of County's Beaches Test High for Fecal Bacteria, Health Officials Say The number was reported Tuesday morning, but by the afternoon only three beaches tested high, KHOU reports. Officials said the high levels are likely due to increased rain over the past two weeks. http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/b...ters-test-high-for-fecal-bacteria-6346435.php
Eh, swam all week. Water was pretty clean, no seaweed, no jelly fish, warm enough/cool enough. Enough waves to body surf some on the second bar. //didn't die But yeah, when it rains upstream the **** flows down to the ocean.
Inflammatory headline, probably misleading. Notice they never said fecal MATTER, but fecal BACTERIA. Not the same thing, and similar to the "study" (read: hoax) that said beards were full of fecal matter (nothing of the kind. Check here, here, and here). Fact: ocean waters contain bacteria. Lots and lots of it. Yes, even "clean" ocean water. If you're looking for bacteria-free swimming, to quote Mal Reynolds, "that's a long wait for a train don't come".
I swam in Galveston waters countless times as a kid. I attribute my exceptionally strong immune system to it. I however as an adult, wouldn't even step a foot into it now.
4 million people, one beach 60 miles away I stay down in Jamaica Beach, 10 years ago it was pretty sparse. Now we're pretty crowded from Spring Break to Labor Day. It used to be all owned weekend homes, now it's all rental property and when people pay $2000 for the weekend, they bring everyone they know. Call it ****ty if you want but it is popular, kind of FAUX news.
