Most of them grow up living the life b/c they have no choice and use rap/rhyming to make $ so they can get out of the hood and help their families do the same. Some however can't escape the life no matter how much $$ they have. A good examole is DMX. The guy keeps getting in trouble, partly due to his cocaine addiction.

That's very funny...this is the same guy that only raps about $$$$, cars and bling bling on every single song.....Even Jay-Z refers to himself as the greatest rappers ALIVE, he has to throw in the ALIVE cause he knows Pac and Biggie blow him away.

I have little respect for someone that don't write their own sh*t
in fact writing your own sh*t was a HALLMARK for Rap
it is what seperated it from all other genres

IF U DON'T WRITE YOUR OWN SH*T . . .YOU CAN NEVER BE THE G.O.A.T.

Anyone that proclaims themselves the greatest rapper (alive) should automatically be out of the running(Unless Tupac, Rakim, BIG, etc... did it, and I missed it)

I like Jay-Z, but he needs to chill out on the self-praise.

    "Hov's a livin' legend, and I'll tell you why;
Everybody wanna be Hov, and Hov's still alive"

I love the title of this thread. I vote for 2-pac. His lyrics are the best of any rapper by far.

    LOL funny stuff man :)

Anyone hear the Akan CD. It's a pretty good CD. Kinda reminds me of Wyclef and is not full of typical RnB songs, has a message and consciousness to his music. Not bad if you need something new to listen to. Peace.

    One for the money
Two for p***y and foreign cars
Three for Alize n*****z deceased or behind bars
I rap divine Gods check the prognosis, is it real or showbiz?
My window faces shootouts, drug overdoses
Live amongst no roses, only the drama, for real
A nickel-plate is my fate, my medicine is the ganja
Here's my basis, my razor embraces, many faces
Your telephone blowin, black stitches or fat shoelaces
Peoples are petrol, dramatic automatic fo'-fo' I let blow
and back down po-po when I'm vexed so
my pen taps the paper then my brain's blank
I see dark streets, hustlin brothers who keep the same rank
Pumpin for somethin, some uprise, plus some fail
Judges hangin n****z, uncorrect bails, for direct sales
My intellect prevails from a hangin cross with nails
I reinforce the frail, with lyrics that's real
Word to Christ, a disciple of streets, trifle on beats
I decifer prophecies through a mic and say peace.
I hung around the older crews while they sling smack to dingbats
They spoke of Fat Cat, that *****'s name made bell rings, black
Some fiends scream, about Supreme Team, a Jamaica Queens thing
Uptown was Alpo, son, heard he was kingpin, yo
**** 'rap is real', watch the herbs stand still
Never talkin to snakes cause the words of man kill
True in the game, as long as blood is blue in my veins
I pour my Heineken brew to my deceased crew on memory lane

I don't see how anyone can say Nas isn't the best when on pure lyrics.

B/c the guy has repeatly put out subpar albums...yeah he is a good lyricist but not consistent and with the exception of "Illmatic", his albums are lacking in quality IMO.

I have to disagree. Sure they are not to Illmatic's level, but they are all very good albums. Comparing them to Illmatic isn't fair, because imo, that is the best Hip-Hop album ever.

Yeah it may not be fair to compare all his albums to that one, but every great rapper has at least 2 or 3 albums that are on par to beiing considered "Classic". Pac does, Biggie would if he lived longer, Jay-Z does, X does....I have Nas' albums and most of have 4-5 great songs, and the rest are average. I can't sit there and listen to the entire album without skipping alot of songs. Maybe it's just me, I am sure other would disagree. We'll just agree to disagree. Peace.

    H to the izzo
    is
    W to the izzack

He calls himself "J Hova" as in "Jehovah", meaning he's the god of rap.

Sucka, please. You work for UPS. Without Biggie or Puff, you nathan.

btw- another candidate is not just thrown into a group... but the leader of it...

"Bass! How low can you go?
Death row? What a brother knows.
Once again, back, it's the incredible -
    Ryhme animal, the uncannable "D"
    Public enemy number one,
    5-0 said, "Freeze"
    And I got numb..."

-Bring Tha Noize, from "It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back"

    "Burn, Hollywood, Burn!
I smell a riot goin' on,
First you're guilty, now you're gone.
Yea, I'll check out a movie,
But it'll take a black one to move me.
Get me the hell away from this TV.
All these news and views are beneath me.
    'Cause all I hear about,
    Is shots ringin' out...
About gangs puttin' each other's head out..."

-Burn, Hollywood, Burn from "Fear of a Black Planet"
