The Boot Camp Clik is one of the most underrated groups ever in my opinion. Also Rivaldo have you ever heard Common's album called "Resurrection"? That whole album is on point. Check it out if you havent. Another good one is "One day it'll all make Sense".
Luda should get props, Word Of Mouf is probably one of the top 5 best albums to come out in the last few years.
Tupac is larger than life, literally. There has been more money made off of him post mortem than while he was alive. He's an all time fav. Outkast is always defying the stereotype of what rap should sound like. They're badass. They should make a CD together again. None of this 2 solo efforts released as one (though they were both badass). Bone Thugs - their earlier work had more Harmony in it than anything they've put out in the last few years. Krayzie and Layzie are the best, Bizzy is good too, but every other "bone" can be interchangeable. Overall, I never get tired of listening to them - anytime is a good time for Bone Thugs or Outkast. Lucacris and Eminem are my favorite rappers as of the past 2 years. I didn't care for either of them when they first came out, but changed my mind about them once I listened to the whole CD and not just the radio play.
agreed. I think Redman's lyrical skill often is overlooked because he never really raps about anything serious.
one and two has to go to pac and biggie respectively. though i think biggie would have passed up pac if he were still around. so sad. i mean didn't he only have one album complete before he died (ready to die). i think hypnotize was released shortly after his death. everything the guy touched turned gold... even if he just sang the chorus for the songs... "get money (remix)", "player's athem"... dude was a breath of fresh air for the industry... well... he and nas (who's only good album was his first, but it was soooo good an album that it doesn't make a difference that the others sucked arse). big brought the airwaves back to the east.
how About this . . . What criteria do you rate the rappers on? Mass Appeal? Lyrics? flow? Music? What is your personal Criteria . .what gets the most weight etc? Rocket River
Ludacris the best rapper in the game today???? I guess if your idea of the best is catchy beats with regurgitated lyrics. I like Luda but he isn't anything special and definitely doesn't warrant mention in a thread where the topic is G.O.A.T.
OTHER: A Tribe Called Quest (represent, represent sent) Seriously...I don't think anyone comes close to putting together a body of work in this type of music. Smart lyrics...excellent sampling...great music.
Lyrically, Tupac doesn't make Top 10. IMO, as far as lyrics are concerned, there's Nas and Jay-Z and then there's everyone else including Rakim. As far as overall, lyrics, production, flow, delivery, etc. I have to go with Cube. When Cube put out Amerikkka's Most Wanted, Death Certificate, Predator, and Lethal Injection, he was the unquestioned king of Hip Hop. There is no one even close who has dominated rap for a period like that. He had a Jordan type run from 90 to 93.
Definitely Pac......the lyrics, the overall message, and the emotion he had makes him the greatest of all time. BTW....when it's all said and done, Mobb Deep will be one of the best rap groups ever. Every cd they've made is great. Cod
What, no: <img src="http://faculty.strakejesuit.org/Upload/633/B00000DRBV.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg"> or <img src="http://faculty.strakejesuit.org/Upload/633/B000002UVD.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg"> ?? Someone had to do it. Seriously though, my vote goes to Tupac: <img src="http://faculty.strakejesuit.org/Upload/633/2pac.jpg">
I listened to all their albums they never showed much growth If u scrammbled the songs and u would be hard press to tell which song went on which album rocket river
JAY Z?????? Nas is IMO overrated but then again . . I'm not big on East Coast Rap You are right on Cube For those three Albums .. . They are the best three back to back to back albums made in Hip Hop and i'm a big Public Enemy fan Rocket River
To everyone trying to be smart alecks, yes, Vanilla Ice, Run DMC, and MC Hammer were mentioned already.
I have to base my votes on not only style but what they had to say and it's importance in culture. Innovators go over big in my list and substance counts more than style. For that reason, my list would be: 1. Tupac 2. Public Enemy 3. NWA 4. Rakim 5. Dr Dre 6. Eminem 7. Busta Rhymes 8. Biggie Smalls 9. Q-Tip 10. Snoop Dogg BTW, Run DMC and LL Cool J get honorable mention...
Agreed. If we're only going to put one group in the poll, A Tribe Called Quest should be it. I think annointing Rakim as the GOAT is the cool thing to do, but I can't justify ranking anyone over Tupac. Honorable Mentions : Jay-Z, Rakim, A Tribe Called Quest, Notorious B.I.G. Guys to watch : Kanye West(Awesome debut), Talib Kweli(Always been a pretty masterful lyricist, but something keeps him from reaching that "Greatest Rappers" plateau), Lloyd Banks(The talented G-Uniter)
