I never got so deep into Rakim he is good .. but i found him a bit overrated. Rocket River perhaps i need to listen more to his ****
I liked the stuff they put out. They were run out of the industry which is a shame because they were among the best the industry had at the time.
I really like those guys but they don't have great albums. Common and most def are very talented lyrically but they don't have one album that I can sit and listen to all the way through without skipping a song. They are clever lyrically but not one of the G.O.A.T.'s. Jadakiss is a good rapper and has some good flows but doesn't belong on the list. I have both his albums but neither is classic. If you read my thread you will see that I have them at tied for 9. I guess I should have lumped Run DMC in there as well. My bad. Like i said in my thread: Actually he has one of the best albums that came out in the last year or so. The guy is very talented lyrically and comes up with clever analogies and flows and is very intertaining to listen to combined with his beats and samples. Someone mentioned Method man and redman...they are decent rappers but not even close to the G.O.A.T. Also, I just remembered another one that could be on the list but probably more on the honorable mention side: Bustah Rhymes. He is erratic and kinda crazy but has some great flows and intertaining songs. I am so glad no one is making a case for .50 cent and Ja rule. Ja rule's first album was decent but he turned into a pop diva when he had that one hit with J-Lo; he started to make every song the same way. .50 cent is ok, but all he knows is rapping about how many times he got shot or how he hates Ja Rule, other than that he sucks.
2Pac wins if you stop counting his "hits" up to "California Love." Everything afterwards was lyrical trash... alky, hoes and violence. However everything before "California Love" was lyrical genius. Brenda's Got a Baby Dear Mama Can You Get Away So Many Tears I could go on and on...
Are you crazy? I guess you haven't heard his Makaveli album which in my opinion is a classic. I agree that alot of this new stuff that is being put out by his mom and suge knight is trash b/c Pac would have never worked with most of these artists and alot of these songs production value is weak but man listen to the Makaveli album, it's off the hook!!! 1. Intro: Bomb First (My Second Reply) 2. Hail Mary 3. Toss It Up 4. To Live & Die in L.A. 5. Blasphemy 6. Life of an Outlaw 7. Just Like Daddy 8. Krazy 9. White Man'z World 10. Me and My Girldfriend 11. Hold Ya Head 12. Against All Odds His classic albums are "me against the world", "All eyes on me" and "Makaveli"...those other albums before it were really good but lacked in production and didn't have enough great songs to be called classic.
All Time Greatest: Rakim ________ Rapper all others look up to: Krs 1 ________ Honorable mention: Buckshot ________ Best newcomer: 50 ________ Raps 1st superstar: Easy E ________ Best Clique: Boot Camp Clik (BCC) ________ Best rapper that people in coffee shops listen to: Talib Kweli ________ Biggest Bust: Canibus ________ IMHO
Can-I-Bus is so gifted lyrically but can't make a decent album to save his life. Rakim brought something new to rap, "Multiples".
You may be right. I had heard rumors about them receiving death threats and whatnot so they decided to just break up. I know Serch started to become way more family-oriented which may have also added for the need to break up. BTW, little known fact, but MC Serch is the guy who "discovered" Nas.
Another little known fact: I played golf with one of their first deejays: DJ White Knight back in the day in Nashville.
THIS POLL IS FLAWED!!! Where the hell is Ludacris!? The man is the best rapper in the game today. He will be one of the best if his career keeps going the way it is. All he does is make songs good.
Two pages of this thread and not one single mention of MC Hammer. What is the world coming to? Hammer is the king of rap. I also like Warren G. Regulate is da' bomb.
All of you guys posted and no one said Ludacris. Cmon, does anyone come out with better cd's than Luda. If I was making a cd and was able to have anyone spit 16 bars on my song, it would be Luda in a second. Clever, witty, and a great lyricist. Also, he is more versatile than just about any rapper out right now. All that said, I don't believe he is the best ever, just one of the best out now.
Uh, look 2 posts above yours... And he even did his post in bigger than normal font! Always amazes me the number of people who don't read a thread in its entirety (sp?).
