fwiw: Harden actually is equally efficient to Durant, so far.

Mid range shots are still statistically bad shots, regardless of how impressive your stats career might be.

I mean, the only argument you have is that because a basketball game is only 48 minutes long that you run into risk of ruin type situations because your distribution is skewed towards frequent small losers and infrequent large gains.

Even then, the answer would be to shoot even more 3’s in a game, not fewer.

Can you statistically model why shooting inefficient shots is more efficient?

The biggest argument (in fact, the only good statistical argument) for shooting 2's is that it might open things up on the 3-point line to make those easier.

If Jim had these numbers we would be up 2-0 or Atleast 1-1 in the series I have no clue what ballerhollic is referring to as average

Durant is shooting 44% from the field and 43% from deep while Harden is shooting 38% and 30%. Don’t worry about the difference guys... they’re equally efficient because......

According to heypartner apparently a 3 pt shot is not considered a shot and therefore it doesn’t count towards your field goal attempts and FG%

    • eFG%
Effective Field Goal Percentage; the formula is (FG + 0.5 * 3P) / FGA. This statistic adjusts for the fact that a 3-point field goal is worth one more point than a 2-point field goal. For example, suppose Player A goes 4 for 10 with 2 threes, while Player B goes 5 for 10 with 0 threes. Each player would have 10 points from field goals, and thus would have the same effective field goal percentage (50%).

You are also ignoring the psychological aspect where teams can alter defensive schemes because the offense is predicable.

It is the resulting field goal percentage after awarding an extra 0.5 made field goals for every made three pointer.

This is surprising, but I didn't catch most of game 2. It looks like we did a pretty decent job containing KD for most of the game. He seemed to hit a bunch of big shots down the stretch from what I saw.

Their ts% and efg% are practically equal. Harden also has 3 more assists in 14 fewer minutes

He was referring to this series only. They have taken the exact number of field goal attempts, Durant has taken 2 more FTs and they have scored the exact same amount of points.

Which only further emphasizes why taking more 3s is beneficial and the call for midrange from piss poor midrange shooters isn’t the answer.

Hardens shooting percentages are nothing special. Durant’s are. But because Harden takes more 3s he’s capable of the same scoring output, on the same number of shots as someone who is shooting more accurately.

The more areas of the floor from which you are a threat to score, the less likely your offense will get bogged down searching for an open shot. This is especially true in the playoff when teams have exhaustively scouted your team's offensive tendencies.

I don't have a statistical model for this. But this is what my intuition tells me.

Offensive rebounds and turnovers. Harden and Paul are killing us with careless passes

Does it really matter that in two games, Harden is matching Durant's numbers?

Harden's TS% during the season was over 61%. So far in the playoffs and in the 2 games with GS, his TS% is under 56% with more turnovers.

That's just frankly not good enough. In last years playoffs versus the Warriors harden TS was again around 54%, that's Westbrook level efficiency,

And unfortunately he is on track to repeat that performance. Unless Harden plays better than he has historically in the playoffs, the Rockets are done.
