Imagine Fred with a competent back court running partner. Instead of being hamstrung with an utter clown like Jalen Green. Insane what he's managed to do against Golden State with his back against the wall, with his backcourt partner laying goose egg after goose egg. INSANE. Real recognize real - which is why it was hilarious seeing so many vocal about FVV being a blight on this team.
Signing him was a blessing for the team. You can't make me hate this man, even at his most frustrating moments.
I criticized him heavily for the way he started this series. He's been amazing since. We would have been dead without him. Thank you Fred for showing up BIG TIME. Now you earned your money. Not talking about your future contract, but you definitely earned what we brought you here for.
Gotta give credit where credit is due. 3 stellar games in a row. Picked up his backcourt partner's slack. [Standing ovation]
I hope Fred leads us to a championship or just plays great for as long as we are in the playoffs, but the Rockets can’t make decisions based on a few games where he showed up and forget all the times he didn’t show up. Same with Jalen, Sengun, Tari, or Dillon. All kind of factors need to be considered this off-season including what is available, future contract issues and how to balance offense and defense. If he leads us to a game 7 win against GSW, I will be his biggest fan until the next series starts. Contracts should not be signed on emotion. I hope he makes the decision really hard, because it will mean we played well in the playoffs.
I think you misread my post? I specifically said it has no impact on the future. I'm saying he earned his current contract. I think he's done that by being a good vet, teaching us a lot, being a steady pair of hands and even when he's missing shots he provides spacing because teams don't want to leave him open for 3. That's good enough. I was never expecting him to be worth $40m we had to overpay to secure the right character, but imo he has brought the realistically expected $25-30m in value for most of the past 2 years. For the future I believe there are better options than on-ball Fred, but so far we got what we paid for. An average PG sometimes good sometimes bad always a great role model. I wasn't expecting anything more or less from him the past 2 years. Now he's also a $44m expiring contract or team option we can trade, so this gift keeps on giving.
Sorry I know i replied to your post, but I was agreeing with it not arguing against it. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I have always said the contract was worth it and he did his job, but have been pretty adamant that he needs to go or at the very least brought back as either a trade piece or a backup pg. I still hold that opinion even though he has been great the last 3 games and hope he is great the rest of the playoffs. In the end, I just want the Rockets to win and if it means I have to eat crow on this site, I’ll do that happily. I generally don’t overreact about players or coaches based on the emotion of several games. I think long term we need a better PG and more well balanced coach. I hope they prove me wrong. I’ll be ecstatic if we finally beat down the f**king Warriors. I didn’t jump on the get rid of Jalen bandwagon after his horrible couple of games and I’m not going to claim Fred is the next coming at pg after his great performances either. There is a bunch to consider this off-season. Stone has a lot of really tough decisions this off-season.
I'm not a FVV fan, but I didnt entirely blame him for his bad game 1. Seemed obvious the team came out deer in headlights. Jalen really sh** the bed. And forced FVV into emergency three's jacking as a last resort Its like if Steven Adams takes on volume scoring to rally the team back. Adams doing that would be a bad reflection on the team that he even is doing that, not him. Yes FVV sucked, but at least he tried to step up with guts
