I would say at this point Green is closer to being a PG than Amen. Amen might end up being a point forward type who operates in areas like the short role similar to Draymond Green.
If amen shows promise to take over the pg role after next season, I would give FVV the 3rd if he was cool coming off the bench. Then sign a extension or two to finish his career here off the bench
Ppl wanted Stone fired (the same group of idiots) for signing FVV early in the season. Where are these idiots
It really depends on who, or if someone steps up to take his place and when. Predicting a contract matching deal at the top end, right now anyways, seems like a futile effort. How he views himself and his career in another year or so will make a difference too. Does he know he's probably not getting another max deal? Does he want to see through the squad his influence helped to create? Does he like Houston or the coaching staff? Would he take an extension at lesser bucks to stay here? A lot of variables to consider.
Thinks Victor Wembanyama is currently the 6th best defender/30th best player in the NBA Thinks Amen Thompson showed lead guard skillz after being marooned to the dunker spot *Checks out*
Well, that’s not really what this thread is about, is it? If you can get a star, you get a star, whatever it takes. Nobody is saying “no" to a star. Those deals are super rare, though. Also if he gets badly injured, he won’t be here, obviously… point is, normal course of business, FVV will be a Rocket for a long, long time. Stone did OK with the cap space, in the cap space off-season: signed the best FA to change teams. Why undo that is beyond me…
I wanted him fired for picking a bust #2 overall in 2021 and signing Brooks to such a ridiculous contract, I still do.
I don't think it's one or the other. I think they prioritized flexibility, but flexibility includes the option to keep him should they deem it best for the team. I certainly believe they wanted the option to move him in the right deal, but I think they also wanted the option to keep him should that make the most sense. It's kind of silly to me to assume the Rockets don't have him penciled in in some version of their future plans. It's honestly silly to think that they only have one road map to get to where they want to go. I would assume they have back up contingencies upon back up contingencies.
Sounds like you'd want Sam Presti fired if you were an OKC fan. He did, after all, choose to trade James Harden so that he could afford to keep Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins, which later proved to be the death nail in their future dynasty. He also recently gave us Alperen Sengun for practically nothing. So who cares about all of the things he's done right. He's made mistakes. Off with his head!
He did, in fact, make a pretty massive mistake and OKC still doesn't have a ring as a result of his mistake....HOWEVER, he made up for that by always doing a stellar job of drafting. He's not picking busts and he's the reason OKC has the brightest future of any team in the West. If we talk about Stone, he doesn't yet have the wins to make up for the mistakes.....if he started making a bunch of correct moves, my opinion would change about him.
The way NBA salaries vs tax thresholds work, you can only afford two max contracts unless you want vet min guys starting. As long as FVV and his $40M+ salary is on the books, we can only afford to give out one more max contract. Pretty sure Sengun will get one unless he regresses substantially this coming season. He may even get the offer during this off-season. So basically, if the above pans out, the rest of our guys dont get any max offers. And Brooks isnt cheap, so whats left may bot be a whole lot. So having said the above, I think we let FVV go when a guy comes along we want to offer a 2nd max contract to.
If we want to make the playoffs next year, we have to keep FVV for the 23/24 season. None of the available targets out there are gonna provide the 2-way play, shooting, and on ball facilitation he does. We should avoid paying that 3rd year max and try to work out a reasonable 2-yr extension. I do think that even on the max expiring contract Fred would have protected 1st round pick value at the deadline. But I think this team needs to make the playoffs more than it needs a mid-late 1st round pick.
I want him to be a Rocket as long as possible. Ideally he should be a bench player in 2-3 years with young guys learning to play his role.
You also wanted him fired for not trading James Harden for Ben Simmons, which was completely stupid af. Now we're here
Don't know what I did to earn random shots, let alone putting words in my mouth. Never said Wemby was #30 in the league. I think he's more around #20 or so as he is right now, and I do think he will be a top 10 player soon. As far as Amen goes, the organization has repeatedly said they think he's a point guard. Of course he's not playing that role much right now with $40M man FVV in front of him.
LOL, what? I'm sorry guy, but you are confusing your fantasies for reality again. I wanted him fired for drafting a bust with the #2 pick, I wanted him fired for his continued failure to move Tate, I wanted him fired for signing Brooks to such a ridiculous contract. You making **** up isn't a substitute for having a valid argument.
VanVleet contract was designed to end just in time to roll into the Jalen Green/Sengun extensions. We were all told Amen Thompson is a point guard going into the draft. I said point forward at best and many argued with me. Non shooting Point Guard works better than a non shooting Forwards nowadays. We have to make lemonade out of the lemons Stone picks.
