With the CP3 & WB trades. How many first and second rounders do we actually have the next few years? I also understand some picks will only be swapped correct?
2021 1) Worst of our pick, OKC or Miami 2) Portland - top 14 protected 3) Detroit - top 16 protected 2022 1) our own pick outright 2023 1) our own pick outright 2024 No pick, but ours is top 4 protected 2025 1) we own our pick, but owe a pick swap top 10? Protected I believe 2026 No pick, but ours is top 4 protected
Thanks. You just saved me a bunch of time sorting through threads. I dont miss the rebuilding days but I always liked keeping track of all assets and looking at potential ceilings for young players. I also find payroll and contract situations interesting.
We do have top 4 protection next year though. -- https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed 2021 first round draft pick to Oklahoma City (swap, Oklahoma City or Miami incoming) Oklahoma City will receive the two most favorable of its 2021 1st round pick, Miami's 2021 1st round pick and Houston's 2021 1st round pick protected for selections 1-4 and Houston will receive the least favorable of the three (via Miami to Phoenix to Philadelphia to L.A. Clippers to Oklahoma City; via Oklahoma City's right to swap Oklahoma City or Miami for Houston) (if the Houston pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyable, then Houston's obligation to Oklahoma City will be extinguished) [Miami-New Orleans-Phoenix, 2/19/2015; Philadelphia-Phoenix, 6/21/2018; L.A. What is our best year to completely tank? 2021 or 2022 or 2033? Of course let us cheer for OKC to suck even worse till 2026 or whatever.
Excellent question. Also hope when that year comes it wont be a weak draft class. Our scouts better be paid up and qualified the next few years. Scouting is so underrated it seems. Everyone wants to make a splash via trade/FA.
The best time to tank would be the season before the 2022 draft. That gives you your own picks in 2022 and 2023, plus all the assets we’ve hopefully gathered from trading Harden and others. I don’t think Tillman will go this route, but if we are going to do it, it’s best to tear down immediately following this next season.
As of 2/1, we currently have the following picks. 2021 - Worst of OKC (#10), Miami (#4) and Houston pick (#14) AND then the option to switch with Brooklyn (#23) - Pick #14 Portland’s first (lottery protected) - Pick #18 So far 14 + 18. Miami is expected to get better throughout the year but looking okay.
Could someone update for 2021 and beyond with the swaps included similar to the OP? I’ll like every post you make through the end of time no matter how stupid I might think it is in return In all seriousness I would do it myself but I’ve been working 60-75 hour weeks...so it would be much appreciated!
OKC HAS 18 OVER THE NEXT 8 YEARS. Wait.. wrong team. But anyway do all these draft picks guarantee a chip? It should, right? Mixed bag of players from all up and down the draft... guarantee, right?
Should be 19 picks in total with 17 real ones and it gets VERY CONFUSING 2021 1) Worst of our pick, OKC or Miami but top 4 protected 2) Portland - top 14 protected 3) Detroit - top 16 protected 4) Second Round 2022 1) Own 2) Brooklyn 3) Milwaukee 2023 1) Worst of our pick or Brooklyn 2) Washington - top 14 protected 2024 1) Brooklyn 2) No pick, but ours is top 4 protected we can keep 3) Second Round 4) Golden State Second Round 2025 1) we own our pick, but owe a pick swap top 10 protected BUT we can swap with Brooklyn AFTER an OKC swap 2) Second Round 2026 1) Brooklyn 2) No pick, but ours is top 4 protected we can keep 3) Second Round 2027 1) Worst of our pick or Brooklyn The Boston model would be ideal for us now. Getting ASSETS NOW for Dipo, Tucker, Gordon, and dumping Exum is in our interest. We are only 19 games into the season. GSW has a 2021 MINN top 3 protected out there now and is going to want to win now with LT and aging roster. Playoff and border teams are going to be desperate for talent. If you look at what we have incoming in terms of draft capital it is easy to see we are not making a trade for Beal and there is no tradeable front court star out there right now that we can get. We need to prepare for 2022 FA and make the team as young as possible and tank to DEVELOP Tate, Wood, Jones, House, Nwaba, and Porter. They ALL need minutes including all of these new guys we will get. The more we have, the more we can package if we see the right talent. 2021 FA - Kawhi not leaving Clippers for us. 2022 FA - Harden, Durant, Leonard, Butler, hell everybody. We could create two max slots by dumping an expiring Wall and even another albatross like Wiggins before 2022 FA in gathering expiring Ks.
With Washington winning over Miami, it might not matter if we win or lose! But the loss to OKC isn't fun. Here we are tonight -
