Memories... The top picture is straight off of the sales brochure and exatcly how my '92 GT looked when I drove it off the Galleria Ford lot in '92. Vermillion Red... When I sold it, it looked more like the bottom picture, except it had a 2 1/2 inch cowl hood, Cobra R Rims, no sunroof nor window trim. Then again, it didn't have a 302 in it anymore either... Another vote for the Fox body.
The car I used to learn how to drive lol. The car I was considering for my first. My frist car My favorite rice rocket.
Regular GT's will always be popular -- there are just so many of them though. Those 90's Cobra's are rare and have a real chance of being a classic in a couple decades -- the engine only had about 20 more HP, but there were many tweaks that made a better sports car.
Overpriced and not many people purchased them. I think the base was like $25k and the SH was $27 back in 98. I did want one soo bad, instead I opted for the Integra. I'm not sure when they were out of production, but in 01, would you really have purchased a Prelude SH for $27k when you could spend a little more ($31k) for a S2000, 350z or Mitsubishi Evo? Even a $26k Wrx would kill a Prelude in terms of performance.
There were quite a few made. 1993 Cobras can be found fairly cheap in terms of collector items. the 1993 Cobra "R" on the other hand..... I saw one at a dealership in Monroe Michigan a few years ago. $120k.
nah, it is mainly aesthetics. It didn't take long for 5.0 freaks to grow tired of the GT's cheap and flimsy ground effects package. just like anyone who owned parachute pants, I'm sure Ford looks back on the GT's superficial body kit as "what the hell were we thinking?"
I would still love to have one of these. Very underrated car. I think it's going to be a classic one day.
Lets recount: I have seen a Toyota Camry and a Honda Accord in this thread. I just dont think people fully grasp the concept of this thread, or maybe they do and are trying to be funny? Oh, I think I saw a Grand Am mentioned somewhere too
it's not about weight. the difference between a LX and a GT is, maybe, a 100 lbs. the reason people like the LX over the GT is aesthetics. same reason people prefer a 1967 fastback over a 1967 coupe....even though it weighs nearly 1000 pounds more. It looks better.
^ There was also the mysterious 1985 Mustang LX that was reportedly built with a strong engine, but no one has ever come clean. Instead of 225 and 300 -- it was more like 240 hp and 330 tq /stock.
