Meh agree to disagree. Homer Simpson is the most recognizable figure in television, and South Park is just pure genious.
He's been on forever. I can't remember the last time I watched the Simpsons. I'm amazed it still comes on. It was a great show, over a decade ago.
I disagree... South Park's earlier episodes were great and original, but it's become preachy and the story lines are hacks in the guise of prodigy, but that's my opinion.
I'm not sure Matt and Trey give too much of a crap about South Park anymore other than it's still popular and it makes them money. They seem to try to put in as little time as possible on the show. And while it's cool that they possess the ability to churn out a full show in just 7 days, I think the quality has suffered because of it.
It feels that way, like it's just a pay check for them now. I don't think I've seen a recent one without a corny "prodigy" in it.
The last 3 seasons have been meh, but They're shortening the seasons to 10 episodes so I think they will bounce back. I consider the seasons of the Simpsons when Conan O'Brian was a writer the greatest years in cartoons, especially considering when they aired. And the newer episodes aren't bad, but after about 8 years of a mediocre product it is hard to get back into the show. I think South Park episodes like goo backs, margaritaville, teacher banged a boy etc are the funniest and well written animated episodes of any show. I'm not bashing futurama, i just don't think it's nearly as great of an animated Series as those two. Yes it's cool they had a story in place, but meh nothing special. I would still watch it any day over any of Mcfarline cartoons. **** porpoise humor.
Archer and Venture Brothers are the best animated shows on tv period.... and also....totally agree about Jurassic Bark. Especially so as a dog guy, I feel that one to my very soul.
Hey now, the Venture Bros. is t***!! THE ONLY animated series to take the time to AGE the characters and make them grow and have serious character flaws. Archer is quite good as well, wish the would bring back the TICK!!!
Kind of a meh send off. It was a decent episode but would have been nice to have the other characters involved more. The Simpsons is one of the greatest sitcoms in history, animated or not. I don't watch any more, though. 20+ years is just enough. I might catch a new episode from time to time but I don't go out of my way for it and I don't dvr them. KOTH was good but Futurama is way better. I do still watch Family Guy...but usually when The Daily Show and Colbert are in reruns. Archer is great. Never got into Venture Bros. I still miss "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" and I freaking loved "The Critic". If I had to rank my all-time favorites... 1. Futurama 2. The Simpsons 3. The Critic 4. Archer 5. Family Guy 6. King of the Hill
As much as I love that show (probably my favorite show of all time), it was time to end it. Besides that, the show wouldn't be the same without Cotton and Luane.
I totally dug the Critic as well, but no way it goes over Archer, I'm not even sure it would go over the first run of Family Guy(Seth is pretty much mailing it in on the second run) Venture Bros can be tough to get into for some, but based on your other liked shows, if you give it enough episodes to convince you, I'm fairly confident you will dig it. Doc and Jackson have set the bar really high for character growth and plotlines in an animated show.
For me there's really not much difference between Simpsons, South Park, KOTH and Futurama in their prime. And as much as I have laughed at Family Guy, it really isn't in the same ballpark. I agree with the finale though, wish it would have involved all characters a little bit more, but it was nice to see a good Fry and Leela send off.
One thing I've learned about these animated series and good things in general is that it is very hard if not impossible to sustain the magic that made them what they were in the first place. I was highly disappointed with the writing and storylines of Family Guy and Futurama both times they first left the air.
I know it probably wouldn't be as good a it used to be, but i'd still love it. While Cotton and Luanne where great characters, KOTH still has more then enough characters to keep me entertained. Hank, Bobby, Peggy, Kahn, Joseph, Dale, Boomhauer, Bill, Redcorn, Nancy, Connie... the list goes on of great characters they have too keep the show going. I'd actually be interested in a spin off, with Bobby, Connie, Joseph and the other young characters grown up living as neighbors like they're parents did. Although it probably never happen/work out, i think it would be awesome and worth a try.
I think they already tried that with Rugrats dude. Straight garbage. Now if they tried that with Doug...cinematic gold. Patty Mayonaise playing the cougar...Roger Klotz as some scumbag trying to score college chicks..
Wanted to jump in and say if there' one thing I hate it's Archer and his **** voice that y'all all seem to love. I hope Archer gets canceled.
