This is really the key here.

The Tea Party seems to believe that losing an election and then being pissed off about it is somehow unique or that their opposition to a sitting president makes them uniquely patriotic.

Every president encounters these sorts of protests. There is nothing special about this particular protest group except that they say there is. In fact, their marrying of their own disappointment at having lost with something as grand as our founding fathers and their struggles and triumphs is not just silly, it is a delusion so grand as to merit a professional psychological intervention. Especially considering the fact that they've demonstrated quite clearly that they have no idea what they're even for or against (since most of their complaints would have been much more appropriately addressed to Bush than Obama) -- only that they don't like Obama.

Not liking the president, with no clear policy-based grounds, is not patriotic. It's just bratty.

I wasn't arguing about it because I understood that's what they are doing. Sorry but you can't have it both ways: criticize them for not working for change and then criticize them for working for change. Do you see how you guys stack the deck in this place?

Where did I say they were unique? I say they have a right to do their thing as they see fit and exist within the law. What are some of the other angry mobs you are thinking about? Did some prove to be important and relevant in the course of history? Did some not? Time will tell.

I really miss intelligent, principled, cerebral conservatives like William F. Buckley. I may have disagreed with him, but was able to learn, understand, and incorporate certain views he expressed into modifying my own political paradigm.

We have a few here that I respect, but many on this board represent near caricatures of everything that is troubling with current-day Republican conservative political thought: Limbaugh, Palin, Beck, Perry, Teabaggers, et al

There was a time when I considered Patrick Buchanan a near-fascist, but now I find it oddly amusing when I hear him as a voice of reason, in relation to the aforementioned cabal.

Can anyone point me toward some current conservative thinkers who are not nuts?

What are you talking about? You find them demonstrating for change and you mock them for both content and effort and then criticize them for not doing enough to shape the outcome of their representation.

You are wanting to lock them down.

Like the guy in the video?

I would imagine that some of those holding signs are real teapartiers. That doesn't define the tea party though as it is "undefinable!" It has been proven that there are plants in the tea party crowds for sure.

Most people here are going to point you to the anti-Republican conservatives, nothing wrong with that, I have a lot of sympathy for those guys. George Will and Peggy Noonan still write really good, non-crazy, mainstream conservative commentary. P.J. O'Rourke is crazy in a good way. I really like Tucker Carlson, but he's certainly letting a lot of petty stuff out, so it takes a filter right now.

I'm a conservative who hates the Tea Party.

I really don't understand what they are so angry about, besides the fact that a Democrat is in the White House. Whenever I try to actually figure it out, all I get is a bunch of vapid bumper-sticker slogans and clichés. Most of them just blindly mimic the political opinions they read on Facebook, chain-emails, or from the HACKS they hear on local conservative talk-radio. Many of them are new to politics and just want to make their friends think they are more politically aware than they really are.

Seriously, they're making us all look bad. I can't wait for the whole movement to just fade away into oblivion like the Reform Party. Hopefully, that happens sooner rather than later. Maybe after the 2012 elections...

Damn, you put it MUCH better than me. I don't usually rep non-contributing members, but I'll make the exception for this post.
