Howard Stern is trying to be funny?

    Guess I don't get it.

I don't think Andy Dick is funny... I think he's an interesting freak but not really funny.

It pains me to say this, but present-day Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin are very, very, very UNfunny.

That's weird, I always thought I was the ONLY person that thought Gilbert Gottfried was funny...All of a sudden, people assume that everybody thinks he's funny...

    I certainly don't love Raymond...

I've never gotten the facination with Bob Newhart, either...

I generally think that any comedian who is incapable of producing comedy without having to resort to racial jokes or vulgar is not inherently funny. A lot of comedians you see on tv rely way to much on voice intonation, body movements and facial expressions for humor. They lack substance and punch in their words, so they use the other as a crutch. I think Seinfeld is so good because he doesn't do any of this. His words are his punchline, not vulgar, not racial insults, not screaming and shouting or contorting one's body or face for effect. I respect the work of the old radio comics as well -- they had much fewer tools to work with than those with live audiences or even television audiences.

...and there is nothing worse that watching a moron up on stage who thinks he is an articulate genius.

just some random gripes about modern day comedy

A lot of very obvious ones come to mind.

    1) Whoopi Goldberg - I can't even begin to describe how un-funny she is, especially after having viewed her current sitcom.

    2) Carrot Top - although this should be a given, and I don't think anyone will debate this. ;)

I am also not fans of Ray Romano, George Lopez, and Margaret Cho. Some people are just in the right place at the right time, I guess.

    Not funny at all -
    Adam Sandler
    Jim Carrey's recent stuff
    Jackie Martling(sp?)
    Woody Allen's recent stuff

I thought Futurama was funny but not close to the Simpsons early years. A bit overhyped. I even liked the critic more.

I don't understand the hype with this show. I've tried watching it because people are always telling me I'd like it, but it's just not funny. I didn't even crack a smile.

M*A*S*H never made me laugh either. Or that stupid insult dog puppet.

Because he is even worse in that? The only good movie that Martin Short was in was The Three Amigos.

    Overated:
Chevy Chase (I'm too young to care about it older crap)
Chris Rock Movies (Just not as funny as the man himself)
All the younger male characters from American Pie (The dad was funny as hell.) I just hate the fact that all of the other roles they play in other movies are exactly the same as the ones from this movie. All in all, the movie was funny though.

Whoopie Goldberg, Benny Hil ( I actually divide British humour into two types, the intelligent, irreverent social commentary ( Monty Python) which is brilliant, and the Look at how naughty we can be, AND we're British!, ie Benny Hill/Carry On movies, which is juvenile), almost every female stand up I've ever seen ( I don't enjoy stereotypes, but I swear the vast majority only make jokes about the differences between men and women/how men suck...), Eddie Murphy since Bev Hills Cop II, except in that movie with Steve Martin, where he was occassionally hilarious), Kevin Smith movies other than parts of Chasing Amy ( although, in person, he's a seriously funny man, as in An Evening With...doesn't translate to his films, IMO)...Bob Hope ( sorry, I know...still unfunny), Jay Leno, etc, Hathy Richards ( red hed from tv?), Sandra Berhardt.

    Shows/Movies

Friends. Used to be funny, except Joey and to a degree Phoebe annoyed me. Now Phoebe annoys me, as does everyone else, except Joey, who is the only funny character on there anymore. Don;t know how that happened...Simpsons ( also used to be really funny, now really uneven, though better than Friends), American Pie and all it's ilk...70's Show...Married With Children ( $ or 6 one note characters...), most recent grads of SNL, including the show itself, Eddie Griffin ( honestly, what is funny about him? He's like Don Rickles without the chops)...Howard Stern, etc.
