the deal is that you don't treat a person like crap...that's just dumb.

was it too hard for him to be like "Shane, I didn't appreciate that. Could you not do it again?" something like that then move on?

looks like he has some anger management issues...he is still hot but *******, regardless.

I love how people make conclusions about people after hearing a few stories about them.

My advice: the dp should wait till he starves himself again for his next role, then fight back. No use going after action hero / American Psycho Bale.

    +1.

Dude is method. He subsumes his own identity into another's for a living, and he's pretty darn good at it. He changes his entire personality/ thought processes to suit each role. (Even if self-indulgent), he's nearly killed himself for his art (see skeletal 120 lb. Bale in "The Machinist.") It doesn't necessarily excuse it, but does explain the outburst.

I remember listening to a "Fresh Air" interview of him a few years back where the host commented on his (lack of) accent, and he replied that he was doing the interview with a midwestern American accent so that it would not interfere with American audiences perception of his character in "Batman Begins." One step further, that he viewed the interview itself as just another performance, that he was acting as he expected a "Christian Bale" might, for the benefit of the host/audience. Wicked.

He definitely went overboard. Threatening physical violence and the amount of cursing show how emotional he was, and it was disrespectful. This gives some more validity to the situation w/ his mother & sister.

BUT...for all we know this could've been the 10th time this other guy screwed up. Like someone else said, the director could be a doormat and never tried to fix the problem. I'm sure we've all worked w/ someone, or had an employee, who would do the same mistake over and over again, roll their eyes when you tell them they're doing it wrong, and continue to repeat it. Sometimes there's no other way to get through to someone.

Just trying to consider all the possibilities...I'm in no way defending it, but for all we know the rest of the crew thought to themselves 'someone is finally speaking up'.

I can see that, but c'mon, that tirade was ridiculous...what a douche...i actually like him as an actor, well, until now, but most actors are full of themselves...par for the course...

btw, that techno remix was hilarious... :D

I'm not anywhere close to a professional quality actor, but I have a couple dozen stage credits. I don't understand why Film and TV actors get so out of sorts when a tech misfires. Because they always have another take.

Something goes wrong on stage (and it does more frequently than people know) a stage actor has to stay calm and deal with it. I've seen an actor spoon feed another actor the essential to the plot part of his lines because the other actor was drawing a blank.

I guess the mindset is different Christian must have been upset because he was totally in character and in top form and wanted THAT TAKE to be filmed.

On stage we don't have to do it perfect any one time, but we have to do it really darned well 11 times during a 3 week production. I always look forward to a chance to do the same scene tomorrow, cause I always think I can do it better.

Course I am not method, and I am not on his level. Different mindset I guess.

Yeah, it must have been a complete nightmare for Christian Bale! Anybody who defends this kind of behavior needs to be on the receiving end a few times. The true dick move was trying to make a power play and get that guy fired. I guess that's ok because he's an *artist.*

I wish he broke into his Patrick Bateman voice and yelled, "Don't just stare at it, EAT IT!"

I find it more surprising that such a big deal is being made out of this than the actual act itself.

He is not the first nor the last actor (or for that matter anyone on either side of the camera that's up in the production hierarchy) to go ballistic on a set.

He's also someone that has always come across as someone who takes his craft very seriously. I'd imagine I'd get pretty pissed too if somebody disrupted a shoot.

Doesn't excuse it...and perhaps he should look into some anger management therapy. But it's not at all surprising that something like this would happen on a Hollywood set.

I agree man, its happened countless of times with other name actors and this time we've just got the audio on it. This whole deal doesn't change my perception of him as an actor at all.

In the same vein (NSFW: language), is Lily Tomlin vs. David O. Russell on "I Heart Huckabees":

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EMVILMo1Cq0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EMVILMo1Cq0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I like her Altman roles, but Lily Tomlin is no Christian Bale. Ended up a good film though.

    lmao, I love angry/raging Brits.

For some reason they're more tolerable and amusing than raging Americans/other nationalities. It's like this unspoken law that Brits raging are OK.
