Yeah, Rooney's alone up top. If this World Cup has proven anything, it's that a team's not going to win playing a lone striker.

That's why I absolutely hate England, I despise the way they play. They're too damn conservative for my liking, they play ugly football. I hope they lose and get the hell out of the tournament, the sooner the better.

I watched the USA play that passive 4-5-1 crap and it cost them a chance to advance....

Rooney needs space to operate by giving the midfield a 2nd target and the defense another player to mark.

But, I wanted to post about something else, in the next WC, or even in qualifying, I would tell the world that in order to combat all the flopping, we will NO LONGER stop playing when an opponent goes down, and if the other team wants to stop play, they will have to get the ball.

Just tell them beforehand that the USA is going to play on....

Also, isn't it funny that the rest of the world is not afraid to play their young players...Rooney is only 20...while we leave the Johnson's and Chings on the bench...mind boggling.

England's attacking the goal a lot more now. Still plenty of time left though.

Argentina has probably the most talented player on the planet in Messi, he's what, 19?.. and they usually wait til about 10 minutes left in the match to put him in to save their butts..

That was a classic -- I can't believe that keeper gave him all that space.

Terrible first half. There's so much pressure on England for them to win it all, especially since this is probably their most talented squad in a long tim, that it seems like they've been playing the entire tourney not to lose rather than trying to win. It's disgusting because they have so much talent and should be playing with as much beauty as Argentina, Holland, Spain and Germany.

Give Rooney enough time, he'll put one in the back of the net.

I am so pumped for HOLLAND!!!

    GO HOLLAND

That is probably the only reason Beckham should be on the field. He can't take people off the dribble. He's not particularly fast. He's not a good defender. But what he does with crosses and set pieces are a thing of beauty.

If he does a few things (cross/pass/crazy shots), but does them really well, then that's reason enough to have him on your team. That's like saying Rodman shouldn't be on the Bulls in the late 90s because he couldn't shoot or pass.

yeah, set pieces are very important in the game and if you have someone who can always put the ball right where it needs to be then he is very important. You don't ever want to waste set pieces and corners.

Portugal has actually played pretty well this WC. This game is going to be a tough fought one. It will probably go to OT.

This is a rematch of Euro 2004 semi-finals where Portugal beat Holland 2-1 on an incredible rocket shot by Maniche. Holland's a completely different team and will have most of the fans this time around. I just hope it doesn't go to PKs, Holland has a horrible history of bad luck in PKs. :(

Beckham belongs on the fields. To say that all he does is take set pieces is ignorant. I like M. Balboa as a commentator but I totally disagree with his assessment of Beckham as a player. I agree that this tourney he has been innefective asides from set pieces but throughout his entire career he has been very very very good. I've seen him since his early Man-U days and his play may not deserve the celebrity attention he gets but to say he is nothing more than a setpiece player is ridiculous.

On another note, does anyone else here love the way Rooney plays as much as I do. He is amazing.
