Stack24, how was the place... was it packed? I meant to ask you if you have any of the TVs HD-ready... would you want to give my HD receiver a try there? ABC shows the Sunday games on HD...
ok... I didn't think it was a mere score. "A loss is a loss and a goal is a goal." Pele said that in the early 80's in some interview. I just felt that some on here were brushing off Argentina's victory because of Mexico's heart and what some believe is a lucky goal. Reminds me of when England's coach said that England tied with Brazil 1-1 because the Ronaldihno free kick was not a goal. This is the World Cup round of 16... I expect every game to be close and contested throughout.. I would hope every team that advanced has the heart and can play against the best whether it be Brazil or any other team. It's as if some want Mexico to somehow advance because of how they played. They lost.
I guess what he is saying is that an amazing windmill behind the back through the legs 360 self alleyoop off the glass while drinking a martini dunk is still worth two points. And Yes, I have done that before.
We had a decent crowd nothing to busy. We get better crowds during the week than during the weekend unless it's a big event. Most of my clientele on weekend days are people from the hotels and a few people around downtown. We had about 3 tables for argentina and a few for mexico. i do have HD Ready tv's there but the system we ran cable wise when we first opened up doesn't have the capability to run HD right now and the service charges by Direct Tv are crazy. We are going to slowly move that direction of course but little by little. The business pricing on those things are just way overboard. Not to mention we have to re run the wires to all the tv's and use a new style RF modulator to control the TV's. Right now they are all Co-Ax cables that were run 5 years ago.
It's as if YOU wanted that, but you came in and said "a loss is a loss"... instead of saying how great Argentina played. Nobody said Argentina should have lost or Mexico should have won. I don't see where anyone said that, but everybody is just admitting to a good game played by Mexico and how they appreciate a great football battle. Nothing more. But I liked the way you responded with Pelés reference and chose to use that at the very end, instead of at the beginning, like you should have.
I'm persian...were not supposed to have hops...either way this could go on forever..wonder how in detail we could get and derail the thread hahah.
I'd say getting into extra time by virtue of an own-goal after being outplayed for 90 minutes is even more lucky. I get the feeling the day you give any credit to El Tri is the day I start praising the Utah Jazz.
The one sport i really didn't play as a kid...amazingly. Everytime we had games i would play goalie only cause i was taller and had just overall sports ability. I have to say i held my own... And no i will not take this to a soccer field caus eiw ould collapse from exhaustion.
I think the game was very even, Mexico played well, but I wouldn't say they outplayed Argentina for 90 minutes. My hate for El Tri just might be greater than yours for the Jazz, but I give credit when credit is do. They played well today, I won't deny that.
the last time i actually played soccer soccer was in 8th grade during gym. I started at goalie, and i did pretty well, despite being short, and scrawny. I had a shut out the first day we played. I had three saves. I wanted to run around and score some goals, so they eventually let me out off keeper.
Last time I played organized soccer I got a red card and I didn't even play. It was at the SW Indoor Soccer place off Murphy... The ref happened to be Mexican(Swoly-D is somewhere smiling). Damn Mexican Refs!
What a game!!! The whole house (20+ Argentina, and 1 mexican girl) shook when Maxi scored what is likely going to be the sickest goal of this WC. This goal was so sick I dropped my Quillmes and choripan before I could even taste them. Mexico played it's best game of the last 10 years and they still came up short. After some carefull diliberation I've changed my point of view on Saviola. There's a reason why he's playing for Seville and why Messi is at Barcelona. He had 2 opportunities to get it done and choked them away. Starting Messi against the Germans will be the topic of debate untill friday. Play Messi.
That Messi kid is incredible. He'd be the best player on the US easily, and Argentina brings him off the bench. Riquelme (sp?) is the player that Reyna wishes he was. Tevez is also a great young player, also probably better than any US player. On a different note, does anyone else think the new overtime format is terrible? The argentines scored after a few minutes, and then had to play another 20 minutes, plus stoppage time in both halfs of overtime. I think it's a way to squeeze more commercials in. Golden goal, or even silver goal formats are much more feasible. They played like 130 minutes of soccer in this game.
I'm watching the Dynamo vs Galaxy game right now. And after watching a lot of World Cup games I now realize how horrible the MLS is. No wonder soccer isn't popular in the US. I wish the US had soccer like Europe.
