I've been chastised for the "J" reference before. Wasn't aware of its offensiveness.

Now I'm not sure about whether the offender here would care with the whole Pearl Harbor reference being involved.

Sure, Japs and Pearl Harbor comments were not meant to offend
You're a dumbass Drizno, and I hope you know the United States just embarrased themselves far more than the Japanese ever did!

I take back the comments that I made. I only said those things out of anger.
Next time try to be more careful with what you say or you might end up getting banned by the Mod.

I wasn't the only one to bring up the issue. Maybe you don't realize but those comments were offensive to some people on this board. I got a little upset and posted before I saw the apology. I accept the apology now. End of story....

They are "cramming it down your throat" b/c ESPN/ABC has the rights to all the games and know that there is more interest in the US men's Natl team than ever before. You guys don't want to believe it but soccer's presence is growing in the states and is only going to grow more so like it or not it is here to stay. This World Cup seems to have more of a buzz among Americans than the WC that was held here in the US in '94. Most sports radio talk shows talk about it, tv has more and more programming about it and people at work and around the city are talking about it. I love it. You still have your haters but who cares what some bitter people who have nothing better to do in their lives than go around bashing and making fun of a sport have to say? The beautiful game will always be the greatest sport in the world.

THere are 1000's of other channels on television besides espn/espn2/abc to where you can catch your poker, man vs beast, and other freak shows until July 10th.

    More importantly,
I finally watched the U.S game and they played really well but were done in by Reyna's horrendous mistake in the backfield (Clear the damm ball) and that horrendous penalty call. I feel bad for Essien, he didn't deserve a yellow on that crap. Oh well.

The Australia game was crazy, one of the more entertaining ones. They went all out. I thought the ref, he is a Barclay premier league ref, did a pretty good job even though it seemed like he wasn't in control.

I haven't seen the Brazil game yet but I am glad they were able to thrash a team finally.

I hope France can advance 2morrow so we can Zidane one more time!

The ref did a good job?? Did you watch the game?

I agree it was a very entertaining back and forth game with a lot of action. And being an aussie, im VERY excited to see the socceroos go through.

The referee missed 2 other BLATANT fouls - which should have led to penalty kicks for australia...... in the first half where Viduka was basically rugby tackled in goals (OK sure he went down when he might have been able to stay on his feet, but the defender had both arms around him pulling him to the ground!
And in the second half - the second hand ball in the box FROM THE SAME PLAYER WHO HAND BALLED TO GIVE AUSTRALIA THE FIRST PENTALY - and even more obvious this time.

I mean fair enough, the referee can be expected to see everything - but in a game of such importance - these are the fouls he needs to see and penalise.

And what happened at the end of the match? From what i saw, it looked like the ref waived off another aussie goal because he had awarded us another penalty. But he just ended teh game at 2-2 ... no penatly and the goal didnt count.??????

Bring on Italy. Should be another great game.

I tell you what, Australia are really impressing me. They are playing some good team soccer... with a lot of confidence. I think we (the Socceroos) are one world class striker away from being a consistent force.

And i wouldnt rule them out against Italy either.

Anybody see Freddy Adu on PTI today? He said he would be playing overseas as soon as he became eligible, then avoided answering whether he would play for Ghana or America in the 2010 World Cup. I hope we have some other promising stars by the time 2010 rolls around.

Last thing your team needs is to be superstitious to coaches of certain country. My home team was screwed by a Dutch coach in this World Cup qualifiers for sure. Hiddink is a great coach isn't because he is from Netherlands, it's because of himself.

IMHO, I think USA has to determine which style would be best fit to your team then go for the best coach or master in that area. The good news is you have 4 more years to build your new team. Perhaps the first target is to do well in the U20 or U17 World Cup. Like you opponent in this match, Ghana, they may not be well-recognised in World Cup, but their youth teams are giants.

He can't play for Ghana. He's already played an international game (vs. Canada) for the US. I think Freddy is mistaken.

No, he played in an FIFA unsanctioned friendly (no European based players) therefore he is still not captied. Freddy knows exactly what he's doing, he's telling the next U.S. coach that he better start playing for the national team.

that's not true at all...he can play for Ghana...though there are some steps to achieve eligibility ...Salomon Toure was trying to play for Holland this world cup just a few months back…he’ used to play for Ivory Coast(damn good player)……anyway Edu sucks(overrated), so it’s not going to be a big deal if he decides to play for Ghana…

Overrated, maybe. Sucks, no. You have to remember the kid just turned 17, and every top club in the world is fighting to sign him. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has flown to America on a few occasions just to talk to Freddy. Chelsea have been in talks with his agents, and AC Milan offered to bring him into their academy a couple of years ago. Big clubs dont do that with players that "suck."

I'd say I've seen maybe 5 flops in a soccer game average, maybe.

In basketball, Dirk alone flops 5 times himself each game. How many times do you see a player go to the basket and throw his arms up like they were shot? How many times do you see the players grimace with every little slap on the hand or wrist?

Every tripping, kicking fouls with metal cleats in soccer are comparable to the undercut in basketball and you know those are the hard ones because they take your feet out from under you.
I am not sure which sports is 10 times worse!?
