I'm very surprised, Spain was one of the few countries that impressed me in the first game,(just like czech). This make their group a lot more interesting.
wow... that teenager Fabregas just light up the Spaniards as a sub. forced a rebound for Raul's goal and gave a pinpoint pass to Torres for 2nd... Spain...so technical so patient so fun to watch
Maybe the sport is becoming too complex fo rthe fans - they whine about the calls no matter if they were right or wrong.
You cite some nice examples from games back in the days where you could cary a murder and get away with it. But the RULES have CHANGED. They are now much more protective of the players. You do not have to injure a player to get carded. You actually do not even have to hit (make contact) with the player to get carded. Of the tackle is dangerous and the opponent evades it/jumps away you can still get carded. The fact that Mastroeni went at it the way he did was what warranted the red card, so the call was not bull**** at all - it was brave and correct. Brave as in some refs probably still only pull out a yellow as but then they are the ones that are making the "weak" judgment call. But you are right, Back in 82, 66, 98 etc you could do far worse things and get away with it. But the rules are constantly changing.
Here's hoping the Torres to Man United rumors are true, a strike force of Rooney and Torres is the best in the world for a long time.
arno_ed... oh no... INSTANT REPLAY, a "chip" inside the ball? You're going to take the HUMAN part of the game out like the Americans love to do with basketball and the way they had the shootouts in MLS a while back... How about we add a timeout every time the ball goes out of bounds? If it is "sometimes [a] yellow, and sometimes it's a RED, why argue it? Respect the call. Stop the whining. Why wait to see what games he refs? Just don't watch him ref at all if you're that much disapproving of him. No... you're not wasting breath... you're wasting posts. Heath, I agree... whiners don't belong in sports.
Can't wait for England - Sweden: Rooney's back and Sven could possibly eliminate his country of origin. Ibrahimovic is out as well. I hope Sweden advances but feel bad for T&T. Also cannot wait for the Argentina vs Holland match...that is going to be a beautiful match despite both teams already advancing.
England needs to win to avoid Germany in the next match, and they have never beaten Sweden in the World cup. A draw would benefit both of them though, right? DD
guys lets fire up this thread to prepare for the big game of the USA !!! (probably the last game of the US and the end of this thread lol )
