Awful :( they should have also had a penalty in the begining when that same player was held.

the Ivory Coast vs Holland game has probably been the worst officiated game so far. Also lost a lot of respect for Holland.

Yeah, that was pathetic -- how could the ref not call a PK !?

OK... here we go again... I will post my video again...
I laugh at your one-sided argument. I am supporting the ref. WATCH CLOSELY (all ankle, no ball, leading with cleats, ball is gone way before that): http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6708702901321541167

    Judgement call, pure and simple.

I blame the US player though, once you have the man advantage, the ref will be watching closely to see if the other side retaliates.

It was an uneccesary foul by Pablo and it took the US's chances of winning down considerably.

Up a man with 60+ minutes to play, just play...don't give the ref any reason to throw up a red card...that was stupid.

Iran can only get 3 points. Mexico and Portugal are at 4 and 6 points so Iran is toast.

ONE SIDED!!! Did you read what I wrote right before that sentence??!!! Did you read my last paragraph before the p.s.??? I LAUGH at your selective reading skills!

Yes I've seen the play and as I mentioned earlier it was a dumb play. And I have also seen this occur countless number of times in soccer games. Sometimes a yellow and sometimes a red. Hell sometimes it's not even called. Do you remember Cobi being kicked and stomped near the corner of the Mexico game in the 2002 WC. I don't recall a damn thing being called on that until Marquez went head hunting.
That is MY point. Sometimes it is a yellow, sometimes it's a red and sometimes it's not even called.
I'm still going to believe it was a yellow no matter what. the ref has the final say so I know I'm wasting breath. I'm waiting to see what game he refs next or if at all.

No we got eliminated.. we played exactly 4 games lol...we played great in both 1st halves of the Mexico and Portugal game but our fitness was tested since we had so many of our key players coming off of injury and they just couldn't keep up and we let it go in the second half.

It sucks becuase i have seen what this team can do when we have our key 4 all healthy and it wasn't fun to watch towards the end. When we have Madavkhia, Karimi, Zandi,m & Hashmenian all playing well and fully fit then we are a very fun team to watch.

Karimi is the main guy if he is healthy he is quick as hell and causes match up problems leaving other people open but since he wasn't 100% he didn't have bursting speed and they laid off of him and worried about the rest of the team. We had our chances in both games but did not capatilize. We have one more game to go just for diginity and should have had a better showing this world cup. It was one of our more talented teams and it sucks that due to injury our main players were not fully fit....Im still happy we were there and we had a lot higher expectations than this...

This could be its own thread, but are sports becoming too fast for the refs? It seems that every sport is facing major complaints from refs/ umps/ etc... blowing calls. Add in corruption [mainly boxing], but as we now know the ref that blew the US/ Italy soccer game was tagged with with prior dubious charges.

Maybe it's time to give the linesman in futball a bit more power to make calls themselves.

I think the problem is that Humans make mistakes, and with the new technology we (the fans) are able to see if the refs make bad calls.

I am in favour of using the technology for the refs(like with offside, or if a ball is over the line or not).

It's just that the athletes have become so much faster (in all sports) particularly soccer. A great deal more attacking than 20 years ago - yet one official is trying to sprint up and down the field to keep an eye on it all. The one referee is of course part of the grace that is futball.

the haitian one works, it is just congested, and you have to just try repeatedly to get a slot.

The only consolation is that today's matches have been lackluster. The swiss easily whooped Togo; Ukraine is up 2 on a lackluster SA, and Spain should handle Tunisia in the late game.
