Yes, I get that, and the point is whether or not McBride did anything to hinder the GK on the goal by Beasley. Most of the time, it is NOT called, unless he makes a play on the ball. DD
That's actually not true. You can be called for offside if you are in an offside position when the ball is struck by a player from your team and you are determined by the official to be involved in the play. The ball doesn't have to be passed to you to be called for it. You can have an affect on the play in other ways without every touching the ball. That's exactly how I'd view it. It wasn't that the ball passed to him. It was the action of lifting his leg that interfered with the keeper; perhaps obstructing his view. If he didn't lift his leg it wouldn't have been called. Then again, if he didn't lift his leg the goalie might have stopped it. I didn't see red card on Pope but he did have a yellow already, so if the foul he committed warranted another yellow then he's gone. I was scratching my head on the red card on Mastroeni. At worst that might have warranted a yellow. But a straight red card? Did seem like that was a makeup call, but for what I don't know considering the red card on the Italians was most definitely warranted.
was Fred offside for the 2nd goal? Brazil so dire all day... the only time they threatened was when Oz committed men forward... and the 1st goal (the only time Oz defense wasn't discipline) I hope Oz will go to 2nd round and give Italy hell...what about another repeat of 2002 upset
Too be honest I thought the red on Mastroeni was a bit harsh, and a yellow could have been ok, but in the paper I read that call was praised by multiple commentators as the way Mastroeni goes in is extremely dangerous and could severely injure players. It doesn't matter that he wasn't injured - just the fact that he went the way he did warranted the card.
No He wasn't offiside because he was coming from behind the defenders. He was behind the defender when the shot went off and then attacked when the ball came off the post.
That was so obviously a goal i'm surprised none of the french players protested. The announcer i'm listening to keeps saying it might have crossed the line, even after watching the friggin replay 1000 times.
did any one see the shot by france earlier in the game, it was clearly a goal but nobody called it, and that shouldnt have been a yellow card on zidan.
