And one day later perhaps you guys are ready to take in this. Of the 3 games yesterday, in the paper I picked up the refs were rated on a scale from 1 to 10. Portugal - Iran 5 Ghana - Czech Republic 7 Italy - USA 8 All the red cards where correct, and the offside call is made every time and twice on Sunday. Of course it suck that you didn't beat Italy when you had the chance to do so, but do not blame it on the ref.
Let me be clear.....THERE IS NO OFFSIDE if the ball is not passed to the player. Beasley was onside when he shot....and if McBride did not touch the ball, it was a bad call. If however, they are saying he obstructed the view of the keeper, then they have a right to make that call, though it is a VERY HARD CALL to make on plays that are not set pieces. DD
i think they call a offside as soon as the player make the contact with the ball, and the player was clearly offside when the balll was kicked even tho he did not make contact with the ball, it was a good call. is it just me or does the coach for the US team look really r****ded.
No, that is not true. Did you see Ghana where the guy was offside on the breakaway but they did call it until his teamate passed the ball to him. It is NOT illegal to be offside, just to get the ball when offside. DD
I love Ronaldo and everything he has done for Brazil but the only reason he is playing is that they are trying to get him to break the world cup record for most goals. He is not doing anything. Please bring Robinho in! Also, they are missing my boy Rivaldo
yea he's playing sluggish and not making anything happen, while all the brizillian players seem to be bring in energy, ronaldo is just floating around not doing much.
The Offside play your talking about. McBride would have not been offisides if he just stayed put and did not make any type of move and was not part of the play. When the shot went off he lifted his leg which now puts him in the play and causes an offisides. That was why the call was made. I know it's hard to do but he should have stayed still and not made any type of move and the goal would have been allowed.
That will happen becuase Ronaldo is just sitting there waiting for the perfect pass to score a goal. He can't create anymore and that is hurting them real bad. The defense is just sitting back on him knowing he can't do much and that is hurting the rest of the team.
People forget but Ronaldo is an OLD 29. He was in the '94 world cup (he did not play) but he's been a professional since 14. The other problem is that he, like many of the brazilian players, are BIG time partiers. That is a problem when you get older and older. As soon as I say that, Ronaldo gets an assists GOOOOALLLL BRAZIL!!!
Yeah i remember him back then...just like my home team that has Ali Daei playing and he is like 35 or something just cuase he is the captain and all time leading scorer, they should send out their best team. Look at Italy, Del Peiro is on the bench as well as some other squads they put their older players on the bench then bring them in. He was amazing back then and not to mention his knees are shot after those devastating injuries. I wish they would just sub him out quicker....
Heath - the London Times was also very complimentary of the refs, and called the play by the Italians and Americans disgraceful. It said that all the calls made were the correct ones, the Uruguayan ref was great, etc etc. Clearly Europeans hate America.
But Americans don't hate and stereotype Europeans right? The officiating was horrendous, no ands, ifs, ors, buts about it.
I would have to agree with all the calls the ref made. They were not "POPULAR" calls but they were the right ones. Both sides played really agressive and starting making some bad tackles and they were called for it. The Offisides call on the US was right...i didn't see many bad calls to be honest with you in my opinion.
Offside has nothing to do with having the ball passed to you or not. It is not illegal to be in an offisde position, that is true, but it is illegal to take advantage of being in one, so you are called offside if you get a pass, get to a rebound due to being in that position or obstruct the goalies view. You can even get called offside for just making a play for a ball being in offside position. When you are in an offside position you should have no interest in the ball and get out of offside position before you can take an interest in it again.
