If Iran plays like they did in the first half against mexico Yes they should beat them. We SHOULD Have tied mexico if we kept up the same intensity. I still can't believe we came out that flat in the second half and made those mental errors.

I hope the changes we make in the lineup will be to our favor and will actually have an effect on the rest of the players. We should get Zandi back this game in Midfield but like i said it all depends on which team comes out to play this game....

PLEASE Contribute to the site so you can search on threads with the most replies, sorted by replies or views ;) ... right now this one has 1400+ views, and it's barely the first week. It is in 25th place right now and sure to beat 10 more to the top.

The one with the most replies right now is the "Young Bush or someone else" thread with 3000+... but I don't know if that will count, since it was many merged into one.

But they did seed the nations - at least the top 8 nations - and two team in your group did not belong there - the rest is just the luck of the draw.

The reason the groups get uneven is due to what they do with the unseeded teams - by having euro teams in one "seed" group etc so that a group will be diverse in what teams you get into a group. FIFA do not want to risk having 4 euro teams in one group etc. or Having USA be in a group with teams they qualified with. When you come to the big dance they want you to play "new" nations in group play.

That's what I don't understand. They rank the U.S. at No.5 in the world, but they didn't make the U.S. one of the top 8 seeds. Am I missing something here?

Thats happen to mexico in previous WC, Mexico is been on the top 5 a lot of time but this is the first time they put Mexico on the top 8 seeds, and its because the FIFA rankings sucks, I dont think mexico is better than teams are below them like: England, Argentina, Italy, France.

Part of the formula was the last two World Cups, and we finished dead last in '98.

SlowLy-D and DaDakota: Does it really matter in terms of seating? Neither the U.S. nor Mexico will win the World Cup this year ;)

Holland needs a good result tomorrow to assure a place in the next round.

I feel bad for Poland, Paraguay and T&T. They played 3 tough teams really hard and end up losing late in the game. And the 3 teams that beat them will be going to the next round and not playing their best games to get there. :(
Except for the Sweden/T&T draw, I feel there hasn't been that "special" game yet. Or maybe the fact that the US got beat like a red headed step child is clouding my judgement.
Anyone out there have a favorite match so far???

Oh yeah, should have posted this part as well, in my post above. The FIFA rankings is a joke and even FIFA acknowledges this by not using it for seedings. You get more points for quantity of games than quality of games and it cares way too much about wins than quality of opponent. So for WC seedings FIFA uses some formula that includes how you have done in the last few WC's and other stuph. I guess if they fix how the FIFA rankings are calculated then they could use it for seedings.

Many think that Tunisa vs Saudi Arabia is so far the best game in this tournament.

Okay, sports fans. What's your lineup for the Italy game?

Mine represents sort of a melding of my ideal-world lineup and one that I think actually has a chance of getting run out there. It'd be a 3-5-2 with Gooch, Pope and Bocanegra in the back, Convey, O'Brien, Reyna and Dempsey from left to right across the midfield, with Donovan playing behind a front two of McBride and Johnson.

If I were being completely true to myself, Jimmy Conrad and Ben Olsen would be in there somewhere, but I figure that's fantasyland.
