ghana has some amazing speed...however their defense has been WEAK! too many corners...no way you can give 7 corners in a half and expect not to be down.

God these Italians do know how to make a meal out of the slightest bumps by opposing players. They've made feigning injuries into an art form.

Too bad. Ghana has a couple of very good players. But there's also a few that's clueless.

Their defense was horrible...just horrible. However, an academy award should go to the Italians, WOW, their acting skills are amazing (or the ref is a cheat)…one or the other.

doble desmio(sp). hijole. Now the US can only progress by winning its next 2 games. It's like the percentages they show you on the poker games. If ghana had tied the game, the US chances would have been 45 and 55%(maybe lower) to advance being mathematically only one point behind 2 teams and 3 points behind the czechs.
now with 2 teams (CZE & ITA) with 3 points it's more like a 10 to 5% chance they will advance, especially with goal differential factored in.
They HAVE to win the next two. There is no getting around it, a tie in any of the next two won't help.

I beg to differ, plcmts17... (dang, it's difficult to type in your nick  )

If U.S. WHIPS Ghana with 3 or more, which looks doable, and ties with Italy, there is a much bigger chance. Your assumption is correct about winning both, but this is the first game. Don't count them out  without winning the first. I have been saying all along that a possible 1-1-1 is doable for all teams, it's just that it's difficult Ghana can tie with CZE, and I know all three will beat GHANA.

    it's Dios mío, btw...

You're right Swoly it is possible, but having a -3 goal differential after the first game puts us in bad shape regarding tiebreakers, especially considering how good Italy and the Czechs looked today. We REALLY need to win our next two.

Ghana is not as bad as you are making them out to be...the Italians were that good...they have some excellent strikers…however there is no way Ghana or U.S are gonna somehow displace Italy or the Czech...those teams are far superior and are a lock for the next round.

I heard bracamontes say one time doble desmio or was it desmillo....regarding the Portugal own goal against the US in 2002. that was when Jorge Costa headed the ball back to Baia who was way off his line and it went in.

I'm still watching Univision here at work and I have a question to those who watch it regularly. Do all the lovely ladies who do the weather have to have tig ole bitties. I know Jackie Guerrido but there's another one as well.

YES, DEFINITELY. U.S. Needs to WIN BADLY both. You're right about the -3 standing now... :( that's a toughie. We need to beat Ghana 17-0 and at least tie Italy and we want Italy to tie CZ. You heard me right, yo... 17-0... diecisiete a cero.
For space's sake, I am turning off my signature, y'all.

Thanks Rivaldo, that's what I meant.

Talking about Holland, honestly I am not betting on it after the 1st game. Where is Davids, Seedorf? The Dutch needs midfield that control the ball not just knock around the ball hoping for a opptunity. Robben was amazing, but he is no secret. I was suprise Serbia left so much space open for Robben to operate. Plus he is a winger. In NBA world, you still need a inside force to win it all. VAN NISTELROOIJ Ruud can pretty much be reduced to nothing if he doesnt have a service. This Dutch team has glaring weakness.

On the other hand, did you all how Italy play. It was efficient soccer. I am betting on Italy right now.

    :D :D :D
Do you mean Ghana whip us 3:0?
Physically this Ghana team is the best team in the group. We cant be thinking beat them by 3:0. Again, we ought to pack it in. Take a note of how Italy did it. Lure them into thinking they can beat us, all out, then strike. Pack in again ... The Ghana team as far as I can tell is not smart.

This is the only way US can win it.

Wnes: Always good to read famous dutch comments:D

Rivaldo2181: The atmosfeer is amazing, orange everywere, only the dutch media is nto as positive as i would like, however Van basten is a legend, so they cannot have to much criticisme.

YallMean: Seedorf never played good for the dutch team, and he never worked, en was bad for the group. We do need a player like davids, but we do not really have one like him, van bommel is good. Robben is great, he just need to think about passing more often after a move, and not always shoot, when he makes a move. Van persie is also a great player, we are very fortunate with our wingers. Van nistelrooy doesn't play well, maybe he will in time. To bad we do not have Klaas-Jan Huntelaar with us(our striker for the future).
