If Iran does find a way to get the winning goal than Mexico will be in trouble trying to get out of the group. They still would have to play Portugal.
There is a winner and a freaking loser, but that's in the later rounds. the first three game are games you play in your pool. 3 for first 1 for tie 0 for being there. After those three games, the two teams with the highest point totals move on to the next round where you either win or be a freaking loser.
I mean really what purpose does a tie serve other than to bore the hell out of everyone watching? Did you watch the Trinidad vs. Sweden game? Anyways, I think ties are only allowed in the first qualifying round, after that one team has to win in the 1-game playoffs, which is starting the next round. DAMN! A huge mistake by Iran! They just threw this game away, what an idiotic mistake by that defender.

They shouldn't be, that was humiliating to them. It's a points system, ties get you 1 point and victory 3 points, that's just how it works in the first round, it's a points system, the two teams with the most points in each division move on to the next round, but for purposes of this qualifying round, it's different. It's really not a big deal, since there IS something to gain from a tie game, it's not like the game is a waste.
