    Ehem, just to let everyone know.

    There is no "S" in offside.......

    offsides = NFL

    offside = soccer

    It is a minor point but living in England I used to get hammered by this, so in case you are in a soccer discussion, drop the "S"

    :D

    Carry on !!

    Pretty fun unproductive day today.

    We we're watching the game on portable tvs outside of the building. It was two other guys in my department, and a guy from IT. And then the head of IT told us there was this thing on our computer where we can watch tv.

    It's something called a CISCO IP viewer, or something like that. The freaking director of IT configured it for us. He told us his wife better leave him alone in the mornings. He wants to see Ghana play Italy on monday, but he's in a meeting.

    That sucks.

    But it's fun. Tommorow, I work, and this is what I will be doing apperently.

    So get rid of the line of scrimmage in american football and let the players lineup wherever they want. Let the defense guard them all over the field. It doesn't make sense.

    DIfferent game, but I liked the Blue line idea......

    Too often the call is wrong or borderline.....within the last 30 yards it should be a free for all...goal hanging allowed.

    :)

    I thought the refs made the correct call in the games today. They are lined up exactly with the players and by the time ref blows his whistle, a few seconds have elapsed from when the linesman lifts his flag. THat is why it appears to be a bad call. All the replays showed they were good calls, and not horrendous ones. Certainly better officiating than the NBA playoffs ;)

    I love Tommy Smith's and the other guy's commentating. Classic lines:

    1. "The poles have been denied by the pole twice"
    2. "Do you know who the first person was to drill for oil?", "a brit?" "no, a pole."
    3. "They have been pole-axed"

    When I was a kid playing soccer we would run offside traps that would just baffle the other teams. That nonsense of course doesn't fly when you get older in Division I, etc. (maybe once every now and again) but it was hilarious at the time.

    I wouldn't mind seeing a 'blue line' type rule change, but it would take some real tinkering to get right.

    The tough part about the offsides trap is that you have to have all four in the back on the same page to stay even ahead of the last offensive player. If one fullback is not on the same page, the results are disastrous.

    Yeah, it's a tricky business as you get more advanced and the opposing forwards have their own tricks to beat the trap. When you blow a trap and watch a fast forward explode past you on a through ball it is a scary moment ~ no doubt.

    Here is the FIFA World Cup page. It has these two minute highlight videos as soon as the games over over. I hope this helps.

    The updated link did not appear to work either. Maybe I am not inserting the link properly. Sorry.

    I found the link by Google the FIFA world cup. Choose the link with the yahoo.com in the address.

    GO USA!

    The greatest thing about this game are the constant references to Beckham and Posh Spice.

    :rolleyes:

    They need to stop calling that an "own goal" -- yes, it flicked off the defender's head, but it was an excellent shot by Beckham.

    It wasn't a shot it was a cross or serve into the penalty box intended for somebody on England to head it in...There was nothing great or excellent about...it was a good cross, but he deserves no credit for the goal.
