Hmmm... World Cup VIP: SpIkE LeE SL is dumb. I bet you he hasn't even been to a PRO game... there are clocks of the game time in the stadium, Spike... don't be ignorant. I bet you he also wants to add in 20 timeouts as well, to promote his movies or something...
To the NYC brethren: What's a good place to catch the Germany/Argentina game? I'll be on the upper east side, around 71st & 1st.
I'm not sure if there are any german bars on the UES anymore (there apparently used to be a ton but I believe most are gone now). But anyway the 70's and 3rd is loaded with college-y sports bars taht will have it. German places - Zum Schneider's on 7th & Avenue C is my favorite german bar in the city and a great place to watch games. Hullo Berlin on the west side may also be a decent place to watch it. Not sure of any argentine hangouts.
are you tethered to the UES? sam mentioned zum schneider, i think it's a much cooler place than hallo berlin. anywho, i'm playing hooky friday and would be up for watching the game somewhere if any of you guys are interested.
In the real world - not the world "let's watch the slow-motion 100 times" world, it's a PK, end of story. The No-PK camp tries to argue the tackle and dribble away, and the jump and dive are two completely seperate plays. However, you can't seriously argue for that in the real time. One can argue the Italian's motion forward has already started when he dribble the ball away from the tackle, thus being taken down by someone lying on the ground warrants a PK, intentional or not. Like someone said earlier, blame the lame tackling play.
DerGary is right. Zum's is much better. I was there two sats ago for US-Italy and it was awesome, even the part where I got so drunk I passed out on the toilet and blacked out subsequently. I've got to work on friday though
Ehh no, not end of story, in no way was that a penalty, you can say that in real world it would be a penalty(and unfortunatly the ref thought the same thing), but you would be wrong. The striker initiated contact, so therefor it is not a penalty
Sounds like a damn fine place to catch a game. No tether, have the day pretty much free. How much of a hastle to get there from 1st/71st?
By cab it is easy just somewhat expensive, zip right down the FDR (15$+?). By subway it's a b**** because you have to walk all the way over to Lex and then back east again. There's probably a bus but I never take it so I don't know.
I do not think we will confince the other. There is no way of looking at it for me that would make it a penalty, maybe it is different for you, but i will never see this play as a penalty. Lets agree that we disagree
Do you know a Chinese fan committed suicide in China after his beloved Dutch team lost to Portugal 0-1 in the World Cup?
it is a damn fine place, however, they are selling tickets to the german match and are sold out. it is a pretty small place, that's the problem. but, loreley should work out better if you are interested. here's the link: http://loreleynyc.com/ i know one of the managers and it's probably an even cooler place than zum. oh, and i don't know why sam says it's difficult by subway. you are in ny, walking a bit is just how it is, unless you just don't mind paying for cabs.
Yeah...I hadn't gotten around to asking how early I was going to need to be there to get a table. Looks like a cool place. If you're up for meeting up w/ me & the gf & catching the game, I'm in. Unless it's pouring down rain (which I think is still a possiblility), walking's not a problem, better way to see stuff anyways.
I used to live on Avenue C, you know how long it takes to get to the 4-5-6 from Avenue C? It's no fun.
France-Spain was the best game so far. Worthy of a semi. People say Spain choked. But seriously, should any team with ZZ, Henry, Desaille(sp?), Viera and some fine young fresh talent like Ribery mixed in be surprised if they win? Spain may have had the depth, but France had the top end talent. Many of the best or nearly best players at their positions over the last decade play for France. Spain has great pro teams, but most of their best players come from Brazil and Argentina in particular, with a hefty sprinkling from other European countries and N Africa. Brazil better be focused, because France could be trouble, they are playing organized defense and have playmakers. Interesting, I was looking at Chelsea's roster. Two of the three best African players (Drogba, Essien--great, great players), the Argentinia playmaker (Crespo), plus other key world cup starters off of Portugal, England (3), Holland, and the best Ukrainian (Shevchenko). Just an insane amount of World talent.
yeah, well if you have to do it every day then i guess it's a drag. i live one block from a subway so i guess i'm spoiled.
a little rain never hurt anyone . i am meeting a friend there and maybe bringing the wife. i'm thinking it is better to get there earlier rather than later so i think tenish is the safe way to go.
I'm not sure that there's room for Drogba and Crespo anymore with Sheva on board Don't forget they just added Michael Ballack and Roberto Carlos is on the way too.
