alright penalty kicks for the first time this world cup....at least we will have a bit of excitment in this game.

    EDIT: Good job Schevchenko...

Man 2 penalty shots saves on the first 2 attempts...my goodness...

That had to be the worst display of Penalty shot taking by the Swiss....they just basically gave it away.

The ESPN Gamecast said "And so ends an instantly forgettable game..."

LMAO! This Switzerland team is the biggest joke of a team to EVER play in the World Cup. They missed all three PKs and two of them were right in the hands of the goalkeeper (right in the middle) :D :D

Oh man, talk about a team lucking out due to a very favorable schedule. I was joking with my co-worker that "Switzerland is a neutral nation, they won't score at all"...only they proved me right.

    Unfreakinbelievable! :D

You mean flop into the final 4....Italy is a nightmare to watch. I think if teams would stop kicking the ball out of bounds to stop play, less players would stay down.

    Play on !!!

    Seen worse game than that.

I'm not even an Australian. What really made this special is I'm a big fan of Johnny Warren. If you don't know, Johnny was the captain of Australia in 1974, Australia's only other appearance in the world cup also held in Germany. Co-incidence ? Johnny Warren was the very few in Australia media who cared about football prior the hype of this world cup. Johnny went through thick and thin with the fans. (mostly thin for sure) Johnny was THE believer, THE captain of Australian football.

32 years a dream comes true, but the man has died in 2004. He would be so proud of this team.

I wished when Australia scores a goal, they'd look up to the heavens, lift their shirts and has "Johnny this is for you" written over it. That would so fire up everyone. Yeah I just read the idea on some other "expert" forums. Could've contacted the team and pushed for it. But doesn't have the chance to do that now.

Like some other random Australian fan said, hope Johnny buys a gaint plasma in heaven, and don't have a heart attack watching that stupid play.

Mate if you want to compare that bullcrap with basketball, think of Karl Malone flopping to the ground without being touched as time exprires and scores tied in a game 7 of the NBA finals. Then getting the foul call and hitting the free throws to win it...

We heard you the first ten times you've said this. It's always been part of the game, isn't going to change any time soon.

That wasn't a dive by Grosso. If you want to blame someone, blame Neill for being an idiot and tackling air in the box, then laying down in front of a player running toward goal. That's a penalty.

Italy soccer has never been pretty to watch, maybe except for the '90 world cup, but you gotta love 'em, cause they are always this sorry team that either got robbed by the ref or play shiat agaisnt weaker teams , pull through and kicked out in PK shoot out eventually. It's got this sad character that make you feel sorry for them.
Defense sometimes is a thing of beauty to watch too and italy is good at it.

It was an obvious dive, then rolling around holding his ankle.. please. But thats the way the games played by most countries, pathetic really.

He took advantage of the situation to help his team win. Unfortunatnly that is the way the game is played in every level. And not only in soccer but in all sports, if you have a chance to take an advantage of a defender making a mistake your telling me your not going to to take it?

Anyone would have done the same thing.

Agreed. The world cup comes once every 4 years. Hate it or love it, everyone really would've done the same thing.

True but the Ref should not be fooled by an acting job at this level.
An Australian player was dragged to the ground in the box against Croatia, an obvious penalty that was not called. They need to bring in video replay decisions.

The Refereeing in this world cup has been appalling.

I finally got to watch the matches and that PK in the Italy game was so weak. The Italian player could have kept his balance and kept going but intentionally fell to get a call. The ref could have let it go and NO ONE would have complained for more than 10 seconds. TERRIBLE way to end a great match where both teams battled til the end...UGH! I hope somehow Ukraine can beat Italy. I would love to go to Italy some day b/c it looks like an amazing country and culture but I HATE their futbol.

The Switzerland vs Ukraine game was actually quite entertaining to me. They were going back and forth for the first 80 minutes or so. The final 40 were pretty bad though.

I am still hurting from the Holland loss :( It hurts more knowing that Ruud would have put at least one away  Oh well, Van Basten said all along that this team was built for Euro 2008 so we'll see.

Would love for an African team to advance but I can NEVER root against Brazil (unless it is against Holland). Go BRAZIL!
