It was marginally legitimate, it was stupid for him to go to the ground......tough way to lose the game.

FIFA and their officials are doing their best to completely ruin this Cup. It's sad to watch.

    the announcers called it right.

it was a legit challenge, he just saw an opportunity to flop and get a PK.. and took it.

what a stupid, stupid call. you have to be watching for the flops there.

The current German didn't flop once against Sweden, which is surprising since Klinnsmann is their coach...

you just dont call a penalty on 94th minute when it's not a blatant one...and grosso dived or to be exact looking for neill's body...

He sold it, no question, but the bottom line is the Aussie defender committed a foul in the box, and a needless one at that. All he had to do was play defense and instead he goes for an idiotic and clumsy sliding tackle. Selling it or not, it's a penalty.

in the last cup there were complaints that korea's "fairytale" run into the semis was made possible with assistance from the refs/fifa.

my prediction for the "fairytale" fifa has written for this cup has figo getting into the final where he meets ronaldo who achieves that goal scoring record.

That clip cuts way too much off of the start of the attack to let anyone see what happened.

    Clearly not a PK!

FIFA are once again displaying their Euro-biased ways...it never ends. Usually it's the African/Asian teams that are the target of officials (some blatant bias calls in the past against teams like Cameroon, Morocco, Nigeria, and even Argentina against Germany in the 1990 WC finale are forever entrenched in my memory).

Australia is not a soccer powerhouse, that's why the call went against them. However, I must say that the Italians still likely would've won the game, but now all people will remember is a sh***y call against them.

Australian fans have been unbelievable for this world cup.
And to go out LIKE THAT ?????
What the f*** WAS THAT !?!?!?!?!?!

I would've swallowed this if it's played every year. But it's f*** four years.
FIFA needs to indroduce the video referee system, this is f*** ridiculous.

And Australia was men short. If Kewell is healthy to play this game they'd win easily.

Contact is not a prerequisite for a foul. Though it's difficult to tell if his left leg was impeded or hit the defender. Either way the clumsy tackle basically destroyed the chance for Italy.

Poorly executed sliding tackle from the side that doesn't get the ball in the box = penalty.

it was a stupid unnecessary move and one that was highly likely to bring a penalty. No sympathy for that.

What are you talking about ? That sentence is simply not true.

And that pic means nothing. The attacker initiated the contact.

That sentence simply is true. That's why Italy won 1-0.

By what? Telekinetically commanding the defender to commit an idiotic sliding tackle from the side in the box?

Nobody on ESPN or on the british recaps I've been reading thought anything of it; You make a dumb challenge - you die by the penalty if you're unsuccessful. Fair is fair.

    I made a tackle if I didn't touch anyone it's not a foul !!!

    Neil made a tackle,

The attacker dribbled the ball away without each other touching.

Now Neil is between the attack and ball, he is on the ground, he has no idea where the attacker is.

The attacker however, is standing up, without contact, sees everything, and is free to move anywhere including to the ball and shoot, but what did he do ???? he dived ONTO Neil.

Neil did move his upper body which caused the mistake by the ref, but he merely moved his body to get away. You pics means absolutely nothing.

ESPN experts on football ! LMAO !!!!

    Whatever. dude.

This is a contact sport, unlike basketball. somebody's houlder/side touches somebody's leg all the time. Let's call a penalty every time !!!

I don't want to discuss with noobs who think that was fair and fair.

The football commentators try to be un-biased. When Maradona scored with his hand, all the British recap said was "Maradona gave Argetina the lead.... British players are claiming a handball though"
