I don't think I want Yao to return in March. I want him to fully heal. I don't want them to take bull**** chances. Look how the Spurs treated Duncan a few years back. They didn't care that he would miss the playoffs.

I don't think you have to worry about tanking guys. If T-Mac doesn't turn back into the Orlando version then we don't have enough talent to win no matter how hard we compete. I do expect the guys to compete but if you lose your best two players there really isn't much that you can do.

At least this is supposed to be a good draft class. Long-term, I have no problem with getting a young stud next to Yao since my faith in Mcgrady is gone (long-term that is).

I agree. And I don't think Yao's long term health is anything to take for granted now either. 3 injuries in the last 12 months.

That's the true shame of it right there. Our duo this season could legitimately be as good as or even better than Shaq/Kobe duo in their prime. Well it's all gone to waste for this season I suppose.

    KEVIN DURANT!

I never thought anyone could guard Dirk Nowitzky. Athletic and long forwards like Pippen and T-Mac have the best chance, but Durant could actually bother him. He's obviously athletic. He's only going to get stronger during the off-season, but here's the key: He's 6'9", but the length of his wingspan is the height of Yao! 7'6"! Durant could actually get a hand in his face.

Not only that, remember that we're in the era of the guard/forward. Kobe, Wade, Iverson, LeBron, etc... they're getting all the calls. They can't be touched on the perimeter. Meanwhile, we know first hand how much the refs are abusing Yao. 10-15 years ago, Greg Oden would probably be the better choice, but in this era, it's all about Kevin Durant.

If Yao and T-Mac are out, and I had the choice to acquire Durant or Oden to replace T-Mac or Yao, I'd take Durant.

Of course none of this really matters, cuz the Rockets are making the playoffs this year! Lottery my as$ :)

It's too early to tank and some experts saud this injury will not have any negative impact on Yao's career if he has enough rest.

I'd be more concerned if he tore a knee ligament, needed microfacture surgery, or had recurring back issues. He has none of that. I don't see why this would be a long term problem.

Maybe some of the medical experts can shed some light on this injury, but I think this board is overreacting. It seems more like a freak injury that won't cause recurring problems. I remember another guy who got a broken bone and came back better than ever. Remember when Cartwright broke Hakeem's orbital bone?

The pro-Oden camp shouldn't put all their hopes into the coming draft. Wasn't he supposedly not ruling out the possibility of staying in college for 4 more years?

Because he's 7 foot 6, weighs three hundred pounds, and has had three serious leg problems in 12 months.

I know you don't want to be concerned, but looking at it objectively, it's hard to not be.

It's not the injury, it's that the guy has 300+ lbs coming down on long, lean bones every night. It adds up - and makes thme prone to break when he lands awkwardly, like they have twice in the last 7 months he's played.

Yeah I remember, and I don't remember the last time Hakeem had to cut, turn, or spin on his orbital or him injuring his face 3x n a year - it would have really hurt his breakdancing career though.

OK, as much as I hate to admit it, I chuckled at that one.

Damn you MemphisX for taking pleasure in our pain. ;)

Then what should we put our hopes on, a truncated return by an injured yao, a hurting McGrady mailing in another lotto campaign, and a 37 win season???

    Whoopeee..

    Juwan+Sura+Deke for Pau

See the guy wanted to play for a long term contender. You gotta let him go.

Do you see what I am going through (6-22)? I am taking no pleasure in Yao getting hurt. He was one of the NBA players I liked to watch on NBALP.

No, I'm just saying that for those aiming for the draft, they might want to consider other choices than Oden, who might not be guaranteed for the coming draft.

I CONCUR. everything won't stop talking about greg oden but honestly, i'd rather have kevin durant. i am much more excited to see him come into the league rather than greg oden.

    *Begin sarcasm*

Guys, we should totally tank. Yao and Oden would be the best version of the twin towers yet! MAKE IT HAPPEN DAVID STERN! (if you know what I mean... )

    *End sarcasm*

I didn't say I wasn't concerned. I said I'd be more concerned if he tore a ligament or needed microfacture surgery, which could mean he never returns to 100%, as we . With a broken bone, I don't see why he won't be back to 100%.

Maybe Yao will have a lot of broken bones throughout his career, but how many big men have had the issue of "recurring broken bones?"

Bill Walton is the first to come to mind, Jayson Williams had several breaks which ruined his career, I'm sure there are others.
