    Oden+Yao+Battier+TMac+Alston = Championship

does anyone doubt that and why? That would be the sickest lineup in the league, what team could possibly stop us? I hope Yao and Tmac make it back in time for a playoff run but if not im looking forward to the draft and hoping we get that third star thats going to put us over the top.

do you have that little confidence in our bench and a recovering tracy that we're already discussing the possible outcome of next year's draft?...this discussion is too premature...maybe when we're 25-57...i might reluctantly discuss the possibility of drafting oden...and even if yao is injured for a while...chances are that we wont finish bad enough to get a top ten pick...

I don't understand why you guys are so high on Oden. I watched him played yesterday. He's a great player in college, that doesn't mean anything when he is in the NBA level. To me Chuck Hayes already doing what Oden does and more for the Rockets.

We need a penetrating, clutch playmaker guard in the Sam Cassell mold. That's what we're missing. I'm still not over in '99 we didn't get Kevin Johnson who was definitely available and stuck with Matt Maloney.

Yes like foul too much, miss wide open layups, help injure our star players, why would we want to replace Hayes.

We should forget about the playoffs this season. Not because we aren't good enough. This is a golden opportunity to get something out of this rediculously deep draft. Oden is an ace obviously. But we don't have to hit a home run. Noah will do niceliy, Horford is pretty good as well. However, if we do end up in playoffs, we still have a shot at "BIG BABY"!!!

Too early to pack it in......we don't know how the team will respond yet....If we can hang around .500 and Yao can come back after the all star break, we can make a run.

    A run to what?

Our team is ass except for Yao. A diminished injured McGrady, two role players and a bunch of trash on the bench. Those guys aren't running anywhere.

I am still shocked by the news, that's why I didn't want to post anything last night. My Christmas trip was already screwed, due to some unfortunate timing. But now, this? Yao out for 6 weeks? We are F*cked, seriously. How can one team be that royally screwed over and over again? Is it still the punishment for the screwed Dallas series? Or simply those stupid 3 first rounder for ED?

Yao, as one of the most hard-working and likeable player, if not the most; TMac as one of the most unselfish players, if not the most; why did they deserve this?! Is that true that good guys never get the better end of the bargain in real life, therefore all movies staged good guys to win? WTF?!!

Rockets don't have any choice left. They can not be bad enough to get the top 3 picks, but I don't see them going to playoff without TMac and Yao. Man, that's just not fair.

If, a big if, role players, especially guys like Shane, Wells, most importantly, Rafer can step up big, to win a couple of games here and there. TMac can contribute some. Yao comes back in 6 weeks, 100% again. We still have a shot.

One can still hope, right? Merry Christmas! WTF!$@#!@%

I agree Kevin Durant is the real deal, and he fits better with this team.

Damnit Sam, this is not the Texans. We don't tank untill we see how the scrubs and Bonzi respond. Maybe JVG coaches the daylights out of the team and we come out .500 in Jan/Feb.

broken bones heal.....esp with the kind of medical care he has. the one i am worried about is t-mac  he is my favorite player........and it saddens me to say this, but i wonder if he will ever be a sturdy body again. yao will be ok, although this does suck.........what can you do......here is to hoping the new additions can keep the team around .500 until the return of our stars.

From the "Win Now" strategy to the "Lose Now" strategy?

Yao is not injury prone. He just got hit with a freak accident during a game.
If someone plowed a truck over your foot while you were playing pickup ball, and it broke, you are not injury prone, it means **** happens.
sorry for the rant... just pissed about Yao's bad luck.

Tanking the season isn't an option because JVG is the coach.
Realistically, we can try to play a style that showcases some of our players in the hopes that they actually attain some trade value.
    Thats about it...
Guess the Grinch came early this year in Houston.

Maybe "tanking" is the wrong word. I mean, the Rockets will play hard every night, but without Yao and T-Mac, they're gonna stink up the joint and be cellar dwellers in the West within a month.

The real question about tanking will arise come late February/early March when Yao is ready to return. If the team is way below .500 and a playoff run is a longshot(their March and April schedule gets pretty tough), do they bench Yao and T-Mac for the rest of the year like the Spurs did in '97 with David Robinson and Sean Elliott and go for as many ping pong balls as possible?

We'll never achieve as bad a record as Philly or Memphis, but keep in mind that the Spurs won the #1 pick that year with only the 3rd worst record in the league.
