As it has been stated before: Many times the police are looking for suspect cars and they know the LP. Sometimes they only get a glimpse of the front of the car they're looking for. Or the car that is a suspect vehicle caught on surveillance camera and the camera only catches the front of the vehicle. Whether you believe it or not it is valuable.
Yet other states don't require it. The reason I have made such a big deal about it is because some cops like to enforce it. Others don't.
no plates on 3/4 cars. on mine specifically- i just have the plate in my glove compartment. so if i get pulled over, ima stick it on my corner of dash.
Maybe it's just me... but I thought it was the law to have front plates? How hard is it to just obey the law... on something so simple?
Both my little pickup and my old beater Honda have both plates. They might have expired plates, but they're screwed to both ends.
Because it's a dumb law therefore I refuse to follow the law on something so stupid. Just my opinion, just like you have your opinion.
I can agree with that "opinion." But whether or not something is the law or not is not an opinion... therefore, I think we can all agree the "cosmetics" of the issue are less important than getting fined for not observing the law. It's a hassle than can be avoided very simply. If you guys want to petition state government to have the front plate law repealed then by all means, be legal until then, but seek to reverse the law. This is as goofy as complaining about the consequence of ANY law on a message board. Your energies are better served seeking out the public servants responsible for changing such laws. BTW- I'm relieved that nearly 80% of the voters in this poll are law abiding citizens (that is, IF they are in Texas, or a state that requires it).
Well, what else is a law breaker? Petty in this case, maybe, but criminal nonetheless. Think of it this way... you can put the plate on for free (you get two provided upon registration)... or you can help fill the government coffers with the money from your fines if you're caught without it. Chances are, at some point you'll be stopped, for not having a plate, or for another reason... and the officer has every right to ticket you for not having a plate. You'll just have to hope the officer is cool enough to warn you, or that you don't have any other reason for him to forget it (i.e. another jailable, or higher ticketable offense)... many officers these days are looking to add on as much as they find. So you decide whether you want to give government more of your money, and get a record all the while... or just avoid the hassle all together and put the plate on your ride. It's just an avoidable hassle, that's all.
I promise I wasn't trying to argue it. I really did mean if that's the way you look at it then so be it. I'm just bitter about being ticketed over something so dumb when my tax dollars could be spent on enforcing the law on something that is actually worth executing the law.
Whoever doesn't have front plates on their car in a province/state where it is illegal is asking for it. But it's ugly!... Lame.
I have a front plate but I was thinking about replacing it with a UH logo...I'm not sure if there are any laws on that. Anyone who has a logo instead of the license numbers?
