Yeah, I'm not seeing a lot of hidden potential. His post offense is always out of control. It is shocking how many of his shots go in considering how wild and off balance his releases are. And he doesn't have any idea what to do when he is more than 3' away from the basket.
More than anything though, the "strength" that we hoped to get from Stromile was his athleticism that would then be used for rebounding and weakside shot blocking. This was going to help us tremedously on the defensive end of the floor and also help out Yao. But none of that has been apparent so far and more than anything it is THAT, that has been disappointing.
Mcgrady hasnt been playing for more than half of the season so far. 15 games in and we aren't doing well. I dont understand the mentality of JVG you bring in new faces and expect them to pick up on a really detailed system right off the bat ? Why doesnt he utilize the talent that he has ? Isn't that what good coaches do ? Signing players and trading them without giving them a fair shot to perform with the team ,when its at a whole( w/ mcgrady in the line up) for a lengthy period of time is just plain stupid. Winning a championship isn't like baking a cake, you can't just add stuff and expect the results to be fantastic.
5 assists a game? I don't know where you are getting that number, according to yahoo he's never averaged more than 3.3 assists a game (this season, and 3.2 last season). Also, no one has mentioned yet that Harrington is slightly injury proned. 3 out of 7 seasons he has played less than 70 games, inlcuding last year he only played 66. He has already been hurt this year. Not only that, but as others have said, he'll be looking for big money after this season that we probably can't/won't give him. Do we really want to trade away an asset for a guy we might have for less than a full season? Joe Johnson would be great but I agree that there is no way he's coming here. Johnson could be a great perimeter defender/offender. I think the Rockets can survive without a true point guard if we just had a decent shooting guard, and Johnson could be it. But once again, it's only a dream. Pachulia is another story. His contract is reasonable, he's young, and he also among league leaders on offensive boards. It would be nice to have him clean up all those Yao post move misses that seem a tip away from going in. However, I don't know about his defense and for a big guy he shoots pretty poorly. Overall, the rockets have so many needs I don't think one trade will fix them all. We still need a big time rebounder, third scorer, perimeter defender and ball distributor. However, out of all those I think our biggest need is a perimeter defender who can stop the dribble penetration. We get that and the Rockets are very good. Get a rebounder and we're excellent.
The most disappointing thing about Swift, and part of it could be lack of time playing for Van Gundy, is his demonstratively low BB IQ (or maybe it's just his IQ in general.) Damn, he looks slow out there... mentally slow. Doc, can you give us any sense of how Stro is percieved by the coaching staff, and his teammates?
Actually, going in I think we all knew Swift's IQ was low, but no one really gave a damn because he was athletic, and could block shots and perhaps get some boards. But the fact his athleticism isnt helping him is the real shocker.
I think it was either joking or frustration statement and Atlanta was just a figure of speech. But I can see Wesley being shopped and I wouldn't be too surprised to see Swift go with him.
I know Doc sometimes likes to drop hints with his wording. Anyone else think that we're looking for a big man in return instead of a wingman?
*scratching head in confusion* what? I thought the Rockets got Alston because he had years left on his contract, and didn't want to deal with Mike James because he probably wasn't going to resign. I don't see skip being a person who'd bullsh*t his injury, and that he's actually really hurt. Swift seriously is great talent-money ratio or whatever it is, but he needs time to develop. His crazy dunks are awesome and I'd like to see him start more before we ship him off. All I can see is trading DW off because of his expiring contract. Anyone else...just doesn't seem to add up.
I've been in the camp that it will not be atlanta. the only big man on the trading blocks is Boozer cause Utah wants out from under that contract. Swift gives them a more cost effective option at the 4, and Wesley gives them a decent option behind giricek and Deron Williams. Also Swift can't be traded until mid december, which is right around the time that Boozer is supposed to be coming off the injured list which would give them time to showcase him. Its costly but if he could put up the kind of numbers he did in the last few years we have not only solved the problem of getting rebounding, Yao's athletic enforcers, but also a consistant 3rd option. Coming from Duke he won't have the mental lapses that Swift is prone to. And people that are freaking about the cap, we will not be under the cap enough to make a significant move anyone, we will be MLE and draft until we are out of the Yao Mcgrady era, so if we could add a guarunteed PROVEN double double player at a slightly increased rate i'd be for it.
troy murphy is being shopped, i can see him being traded to houston, just maybe. rox don't have anything to give up for boozer.
Don't question Harry Potter. And if you haven't noticed, every single one of my posts is full of sarcasm. BOOOO!!! The rockets just let the grizzlies perform a 360 blindfolded alley oop from the free throw line
Blueprint for beating the Rockets and their ONE offensive play. Have the person that is guarding the screener step out hard on the high side, because Yao never rolls, and it just stops the offense cold. DD
Isn't murphy slow footed and a matador on defense? He gets a good number of rebounds and has a nice stroke to three point land, but thats only half of what we need....and then theres his disgusting contract.
Sto alston wesley to NOOKC for chris paul and some PF i dont care. Get rid of this team right now Houston We have a problem and it aint the lean.
